Obama or Romney

Hi all..

I hope I have placed this topic in the right section, apologies to mods in advance if its the wrong section, still kinda new around these forums.

Im currently not residing in the United States but still follow the news on CNN quite often and ofcourse they have a lot of political news stories about Obama and Romney on an almost daily basis. I often sit wandering which candidate to vote for as they seem to be both full of b.s most of the time.

Its quite clear that these 2 are the 2 candidates for the election coming up at the end of the year. My QUESTION is...

Of the 2 candidates (Romney and Obama) which of the 2 are more likely to get poker legalized during their term of presidency and which of the 2 would be bad for poker to be legalized online in the USA?

Thanks

Re: Obama or Romney

IMO the chances of legal online poker is about the same with both candidates. Federally regulated online gambling is several billion dollars away.

Re: Obama or Romney

Considering that staunch iPoker opponent Sheldon Adelson is considering contributing $100 million to Romney (no exaggeration), and the fact that Romney specifically said he is against iPoker, the lesser of two evils IMO is Obama. But really I hope this thread gets closed or moved.

The real threat, and it's not that big of a long shot IMO, is Attorney General Kyl under Romney. He would snap-shutdown any nascent intrastate iPoker efforts.

Like picking between totally drug resistant TB or only 80% drug resistant TB. Pretty much ****ed either way.

I understand that both of them are not in favour, but out of the 2 which has more chance of getting Ipoker legalized and taking step forwards instead of backwards?

Re: Obama or Romney

Obama gave us the DOJ letter, and Geitner, more time on the UIGEA implementation. You really think narc Romney would have done either? And if we need the DOJ to be docile about any future state compact, again, you trust a confirmed narc over a guy, a poker player, who once closed the windows of his car to get more weed into his system?

Jesus, I understand people don't like Obama because of BF, but compared to Romney, well there is no comparison.

Re: Obama or Romney

I'd actually go Romney here. Only because if he gets elected, I think this issue gets addressed. They are not going to want states regulating Igaming. The only downside would be a potential UIGEA-2 without IPoker exemption, but that wouldn't really change things much. If Obama gets elected, I doubt anything gets done. GOP is still going to have the house(and senate?), and they aren't going to be playing much ball.

Another thing to think about post 2012 is no more Kyl. Who fills his leadership position is going to be interesting. Rand Paul 1 time? Sadly we are also losing BFrank(and Ron Paul?)

Neither. Congress is much more important.

Re: Obama or Romney

I'm pretty progressive and I think that Lastlife nailed it. I don't believe the Dems can actually get iPoker done, but GOPers can. My thinking more or less parallels the "Only Nixon could go to China" story line in the early 70's. Maybe I'm wrong, but Romney isn't a staunch conservative, but IS very bottom line oriented. I believe iPoker becomes legal, AND the GOP will institute a tax cut that's paid for by the new iPoker revenue and gloat about how they're cutting taxes. John Q Republican will hail it as brilliant thinking and the anti-gambling expansion plank of the party will be sent to the corner to sulk while the rest of the party celebrates their ingenuity.

Re: Obama or Romney

People saying it does not matter so dont get it.

There is a difference.

Romney is supported by the biggest opponent of online poker.

Obama has at least acted for and against us and released a statement that it is state business.

Obamas position is better than Romneys for us, even though it is still pretty ****ty and he does not care about our cause.

But he is at least not an enemy!
