Re: New MA casino bill

I guess I mis-read the article, or they edited it (something channel 5 does often). It's merely getting tucked away in a drawer for a year

The bill has not been voted on or signed by Gov. Patrick. It came out of commmitte last night. Hoping to get vote today and signed before Thursday as they go on holiday break. Here is a local paper link http://www.enterprisenews.com/breaki...may-come-today

More detailed article now out, including an LOLtastic doomsday quote from a typical latte liberal representative: http://www.boston.com/news/local/mas...3_casino_bill/

Nothing in the article about online poker, but that doesn't mean much

Re: New MA casino bill

There is virtually no doubt this bill will become law.

But there is doubt about many of the smaller details. Unfortunately we will not have answers to those questions until the conference committee's bill is made publicly available.

The original bills that went to the conference committed did not have anti-online poker provisions, so it is unlikely, but not impossible, that such provisions are in the compromise bill.

It also remains unclear how the compromise bill will affect home games.

I sure hope we get to see the final version soon.

Patrick said there are no “show-stoppers’’ that would prevent him from signing the bill, but added that he was surprised by and worried about a last-minute change that would take more than $10 million a year that had been devoted to local aid in some earlier versions of the bill and rechannel it to the horse racing industry.
WTF is this about?!?!?

Politics. They got the major things compromised i.e. only 1 slot parlor, no happy hour, etc. and then added the "more money to a prop up a dying industry that is someone's district" clause.

The bill will go through with little or no alterations. Patrick just needed to say something but will sign this into law. Otherwise he would have not been all over the TV saying things like great job on the compromises, looking forward to closing this issue and such. If anything in the bill was going to be a "deal breaker" he would not be on TV talking up the bill. ~Joe
