That's what he would like people to believe (he said, "I'm morally opposed to online poker"), even though many don't buy it...

FYP. buy yeah, we're splitting hairs here, we all know that's bull****, and we all know Kyl was just pandering to his base, now that he's not running for re-election he's willing to trade some last minute deals for future personal benefit.

Kyl better get to trading soon, the train may be leaving the station. The states may be taking the lead on this issue now and not waiting for the Feds to pull their heads out of their asses.

well Kyl is friends with Adelson, so he is trading favors, just not one's that "appear" to be in our interest atm, but we'll see how this all pans out.

I'm sure there is a lot going on behind the scenes. Hopefully some of that is in our interest. Not trying to argue with you, I think we are basically on the same page.

i think the positive of intrastate poker is that it will show that individual states cannot support a poker room , which will lead to either federal regulation or lottery like multi state player pools. I dont think any single state will run a successful poker room.

for sure, was not trying to be argumentative at all. it's def frustrating having so little power over what's going on and trying to piece things together from the little info we actually get.

Good. I hope Nevada plows through with this and wrecks the whole thing. Feds are a ****ing joke. It won't surprise me though if, true to form, they finally push something through at the last second when state takeover is imminent.

the only state that could possibly pull it off is California, but given the two proposed plans from this year it would so overly be taxed that it wouldn't be sustainable long term. it's def in our best interest that Nevada is on the forefront of intrastate poker as opposed to California or many other states.

Sweden has 4,000,000 people and runs what is described as a successful poker system.
I think 25+ States each have a population equal to or greater than that of Sweden.
I think you forget how "success" can be measured, in terms of development of the industry.

I think you forget that Sheldon Adelson's Venetian obtained an Alderney Internet Gaming license in 2003.
It is a highly "reasonable assumption" that the Venetian will obtain a license in Nevada ASAP.

Re: Nevada to vote to approve online poker regs this afternoon
The current speaker, from the State, is describing Section 5A, which I don't have in front of me.Some regulatory impacts on players and affiliates:
FWIW, per his remarks,
1. The Nevada regs will bar prop players, shills, staking of players or playing on credit. The regs specifically allow for the employment of "celebrity" players. When I get ot review the actual language, I'll see if it directly bars rakeback, which might be covered by the ban on prop players. OTOH, perhaps there is room for marketing incentives more typical of casino comps.
2. Marketing affiliates will be required to be licensed, as a Class III licensee.
No one appeared to speak on behalf of players as such.

Re: Nevada to vote to approve online poker regs this afternoon
Regulations have been approved by the Nevada gaming Commission, with the next step being "pushing forward technical" standards and internal controls to implement them "at a good pace".
There probably will be amendents going forward as "people come closer to actual applications".
(Interestingly, the Commission was told there "Applications are on file currently".)
No applications will be approved until these are done.
As for Interstate Gaming, the Commission later will make a determination if it is federally allowed ..... "Nothing to prevent intrastate gaming", applicant must show the gaming IS intrastate, not interstate.
Existing licensees will be filing for an "expansion" of their existing businesses.... Their applications "will move through the system faster", staff hesitated to commit, but "90 days is in the ballpark".
The Regs are effective upon passage, subject of course to the application process.
