Re: Mass Casino Bill Re-Introduced Today
So our government is hard at work making sure the land of the free, isn't free.
Our freedom of choice is only our freedom if they think it is best.
Glad they are fighting so hard to make online poker illegal, and not worrying about our huge deficet, mass unemployment, industry collapse, and a depression that rivals any we have ever seen.
Our government so rocks.

Re: Mass Casino Bill Re-Introduced Today
the gov. is talking about jobs jobs jobs, we need jobs, can't lose any more jobs. If they make it impossible to play online poker, guess what? That's jobs that people are losing. How many Americans rely on poker as their only source of income? I do.
Don't take away my only source of ****ing income.

Re: Mass Casino Bill Re-Introduced Today
Any update? I called Speaker DeLeo (617-722-2500) to voice my concern and asked and the lady had no idea about the section.

Thats a bad sign. Is there anyone we should be calling? This thing is going to move fast, so time is of the essence.

Re: Mass Casino Bill Re-Introduced Today
Bill was posted on Boston.com
Language is definitely in the bill
No public hearings on bill or (it looks like) committee, just going to the House floor

Re: Mass Casino Bill Re-Introduced Today
Not thrilled how quickly the PPA jumps on to post good news (prematurely in this case), but then basically goes absolutely silent all today and most likely all weekend.

In their defense, John Pappas quickly posted a correction and explained the reason for the error. As you point out, it is the weekend. (A long weekend for some.) There isn't much chance of anything new to update happening as Skall pointed out in his "fun" thread.

Thanks, BigAlK, that's exactly what I posted/asked.
I have watched John Pappas work on our behalf for over 1 1/2 years now. Pappas will find out exactly what happened, he will let us know, and then we can plot our next move. If it were not a Holiday weekend the answer would come quicker I have no doubt. But I am pretty confident Pappas will have the answers within a few days next week, if not sooner.

Re: Mass Casino Bill Re-Introduced Today
That's fine Skall, but he should have dropped in to say that today. "Hoped to have more today, but don't yet" Its a pattern that needs fixing for credibility sake. A PPA rep comes on with good news (and Im not including you in your volunteer role as one, and I dont think you ever have done this anyways) posts good news (the petition is going to Obama next week! The article is wrong, UIGEA deal is still in effect for June 1st! MA casino bill has language fixed!) then when there is a bump suddenly there is radio silence. The organization does too much good work to keep letting this be a problem.
JMHO, but in each one of these incidents its led to posters who are very strong supporters of the PPA getting upset with the organization. It looks worse to the average poster Im sure.

Re: Mass Casino Bill Re-Introduced Today
Well said LetsGambool. The issue of not updating us on the situation is a giant hinderance in keeping people engaged. Not getting an answer today is perfectly understandable, stuff happens, but a simple "Speaker DeLeo was out today and we couldn't get an answer, we will try again Monday" would have been fine. On the flip side of this coin, The Engineer is great with constant communication and helps motivate players to make the phone calls, send the e-mails, etc. as it can get quite demoralizing after a while.

"Hope I have more info by this evening or tomorrow at the latest" means just that, he hopes to. I'm confident that if he had anything to tell us we'd know it.
Sometimes I feel like I might come across as a PPA fanboy. I'm not (way too old to be called a boy). But I am typically a fan. I was one of the biggest complainers about the previous "incident," both online and off. But IMO this is not even close and if it demonstrates anything it is that they learned from the previous problem. That didn't use purposely inflamatory language nor did they badmouth an organization we would expect to be a friend of our cause. They, in good faith, reported what they thought was true. After making that report they realized there was a problem and immediately corrected it, explained why the error happened, and promised to investigate why they were misinformed.
Until they have something to report or enough time has gone by for us to *reasonably* expect they would have found out something we shouldn't get up in arms if it hasn't happened. At least a few *business* days to get to the bottom of it doesn't seem like too much to ask. Has anyone here said they would do something *tomorrow* to a coworker on Friday? Was it done on Saturday. I have and it wasn't. They didn't expect it would be. All of this is IMO, of course.

+1
I'm sure once the PPA finds out what went wrong they'll let us know. I see little point in Bryan posting more speculation ITT about what may have happened until the PPA has time to talk to the lawmakers in Mass. There's all sort of reasons this language ended up in the bill maybe it was just an oversight on the legislators part. I've seen lawmakers screw up legislation before, after promising certain language would be in a bill and it wasn't, LOLpolitics
