From the article, "The leagues will have to prove immediate and irreparable harm will come from Monmouth Park taking bets on their games Sunday in order to be granted the injunction."

Could they seriously be able to do that?

Freebasing:

Will the DOJ sign on again? From previous discussions about the previous fight, it seems the DOJ's participation is crucial to the Leagues case. But this question is different than before. What NJ is doing mimics what Obama has done with pot and Dreamers, and what he is about to do with immigration as a whole, so the Administration may not have the stomach for this, or at least will push for a deal.

Will the same judge as before hear the case?

If the Leagues prevail on the notion that selective legalization is tantamount to regulation, can they get around that by legalizing state wide and letting localities ban in their jurisdictions? I'm guessing the only jurisdiction that would want this is the one encompassing AC.

How can SCOTUS not ultimately hear this as this bullseyes Division of Powers?

I just love how hypocritical the NFL is. They play a game in London every single year, they have even openly discussed wanting to put a team in London. Sports betting is legal in the UK. So sports betting is going to hurt the integrity of the game in New Jersey and other places in the US, but it won't hurt the integrity of the game in London. Lol. Land of the free!

$26 billion reasons to be "hypocritical".

They'd make a lot more with legal sports betting too. Hell, I'd start watching it.

This theory ... and the one about the Moon being made of Green Cheese ... equally valid.

Research has already shown that online gaming increases traffic for brick and mortar casinos. I am just assuming here, but I think it is valid to think the same would happen for sports betting and the viewing of sports. NFL games are officiated so poorly right now, if that replacement ref fiasco wasn't enough to get rid of fans, I doubt even openly rigging games would change much.

Cite the research.

Even if you can, I see no reason to conclude your assumption is valid.

Your final statement is LOL absurd.

Last part was a joke.

So are your citations. The first one spits out some random stats. Doesn't even suggest what you claimed. (It actually suggests that online poker numbers were up because the WSOP was in town - that is the reverse of what you said.)

More importantly, the I do not consider the Las Vegas Review Journal a source of research.

N.J. sports betting: Experts split on whether bets will begin this weekend

Quote:
Daniel Wallach, a gaming and sports law attorney in Florida, said there's a "very low likelihood” that Monmouth Park will start Sunday.

"Not only do the leagues present a very compelling argument that what is going on here is de facto regulations, but the judge will likely put in a placeholder until he has a hearing," Wallach said Wednesday.

A. Jeff Ifrah, a gaming attorney in Washington D.C., disagrees, noting that the leagues need to prove that betting this Sunday will cause them irreparable harm.

"If you honestly look at this, there is no basis to grant the league emergency relief," Ifrah said. "They are essentially asking the judge to prejudge the case, so their basis has to be really, really strong."

I don't think the NFL has enough clout in foggy London to stop sports betting there. If they could, they would.

The NFL is crying about how legal sportsbooks will irreparably harm the game yet they are more than willing to plop down a franchise in a location that fully embraces sports betting.

Perhaps the cessation of betting on NFL games is one of the conditions of a franchise being placed in London. I certainly can't say for sure.

i don't see how NFL's plans for London are going to play a factor in the judges decision here. So there is no point.

The UK would ban the NFL before it bans sports betting.

I was just speculating.

On the other hand, I think the NFL will survive without the UK.

The UK would also survive without the NFL.

Who is courting who?

(Also, obviously, no player will want to be on London's team. Either the NFL gives them a gigantic salary cap exception or expect them to have the under/over every year be around 4 or 5 at best.)
