Hey guys, I realize most people here are american but hoping someone could shed some light.

I'm an EU citizen, from Romania to be exact, living in Germany now but that's prone to change as I'll be travelling around. Apparently poker is taxed in Germany, so it is in Romania from what I know.

Started to make real money recently and obviously don't want to pay taxes or if I do have them at a reasonable level. But I also want a bank account and be able to have decent amounts of money there without legal problems. So what do I have to do, where do I have to move for that to happen? For instance, should I try to become a resident of UK and do banking there? Or is there another EU country that has the euro and no taxes? Hope someone knows this stuff cheers!

It's not about being EU its where u live. Many countries have very different laws. In Germany ther is no taxation on gambling. Some countries like the US also make u pay wherever u are.

Croatia does sound good )

Knircky while searching google people said pokers do get taxed in germany - or at least, it's a gray area. As for living, I will move around but want a bank account in a country where I know for sure it's not taxed and you can have 20k in your bank account legally

BigMagarac - are you sure it's not taxed? Or perhaps it is taxed but not enforced?

Yeah I know it is expensive. I don't want to live in any one place, just set up an account and have residency and everything would be legal. Is it easy to get residency in the UK as a poker player ?

Hey guys,

can anyone give me some advice regarding Taxes in croatia on online poker?

Im a german and just settled over to croatia. Did bought any house in the mountains next to Varazdin. I consulted an accounting firm here to get some legal advice - but it seems that they dont exactly know how to legalise my income.

i thought its like 15% up to 500.000HRK and above 20% regrading this: http://www.porezna-uprava.hr/en/EN_p...AX-SYSTEM.aspx

...but it seems this is only for regulated national lottery / casino / sportsbetting. Since non of my pokerrooms is regulated / having a licensens here, so i assume winnings should be tax free until its getting regulated?!?

They gave me advice to play poker as profession. Then i would have to pay the usuall income tax of 40% o_O.

Does anyone know exactly about the croatian tax system & online poker?

Pls PM me

Thanks alot

Best Regards
Donkey

I think the so called national gambling companies give ones winnings tax free in many countries, but thats no rule, they pay the taxes.

It has been clear a long time there are no regulations so to say nor gambling taxes in croatia. As an eu country, it is still one w no regulations. But the rope is getting tighter all over the eu and the world and any change any time anywhere is possible, changing things better or worse.

Personally, i am keeping my eyes open about easter europe, but might end up anywhere. Romania sitution should get clear in a couple of years. In bulgaria its at least stars thats legal there and no taxes of wininngs but not all agree w that, eg. if its the only income. Nothing in eastern europe is clear about anything at this moment and anything can change any time and some thing is good in some of them while another thing is good in another country thete. But croatia has great potential at this time, badically perfect as far as known by most, about portugal costs comparing to the city of porto there, and split in croatio, and taxes poker none in portugal as far as anyone knows, and its latin based language but stars rake is likely going to be too high there, people there moving like in brazil to grind just that the regulations might make it whatever there also.

London, madrid, even paris, can offer live poker reasonably, so if working, those have good potential, for live tournaments also. Additionally to some other actions, hobbies, and the language.

Keeping ones money in any bank anywhere in the world should be no problem as they are ur savings that are not taxes, though over 5 or 10k amounts in dollars or so tend might be reported to tax people so they can be aware of it or send u audit papers or whatever, that u might get the 1st ot second year if ur pro or similar. But u send them the usual papers more or less as in any case, them wanting some 3 years of them though.

if that amount comes there per some month or period, or just is. U will these days have to fill papers, have proofs, go in interview before they open u the account, but the same papers u need for getting flat rented more or less will do.

In the uk one needs to prove incomes to get a flat rented, and recomendations from the last place u lived at would help, and bank statements already show incomes and rent paid, plus one can show the savings, even official paper they have in many banks and written in english if u want, these together with flat will also make it easier to get a bank account opened.

Its easiest to get a shared flat rented, where common rooms are shared. In london they might not be much cheapers than the nonshared until really many live there, and in many cases they are for some nationalities, age limits, especially for younger people. U have ur own room but that is more or less it, though u might have up to bathroom even, but dont count for it. I guess that is how they live in mexico, vietnam, bulgaria, romania and anywhere when people cant afford their own flats, and during old age w other old people, but i am running here to other subjects.

The national insurance papares or whatever u fill as soon as possible as it takes around a month i think, though not that u necessarily need it for anything, and not compulsory, but its maybe good to use all aces and high cards one has in any country.
