Coming in 2013 - Maryland B&M Poker

It is a long ways away but B&M poker will most likely be coming to Maryland in the late Fall of 2012 or Summer of 2013....

After slots passed the referendum vote the legislature for various internal political reasons that are not important decided to put table games to a referendum as well...so it seems like the timeline will be as such:

* 2012 Legislative Session - Pass bill to put vote on ballot
* November 2012 - Referendum put on general elections ballot - passes
* Depending on the language of the Bill it will either be enacted in June or at another TBD date, I am not sure because it would be a constitutional amendment.
* Casinos being built are already being prepared for table games (ie Arundel Mills) so hopefully the transition will be quick.

Am I too optimistic?

Yes, I think you are too optimistic. Are slots even a lock to pass?
A quick transition is an optimistic view as well, if it were to pass.
Then who knows what kind of rake they may have.
To think we could have poker in Fall of 2012 is far reaching.

But it would be awesome.

Edit to add: everything in maryland is slow.

Slots are already passed and two casinos are up and running...
http://www.oceandowns.com/
http://www.hollywoodcasinoperryville.com/

A third casino is being built at a huge mall just south of Baltimore and will most likely be the best in the state...
Another is being built in Baltimore city, but the contract has not even been awarded yet...they found someone to do it and then cancelled the contract because the guy turned in some paperwork late...now millions in revenue are lost...ironically the guy turned around and sued the city for reverse racial discrimination.

Agreed everything moves slow, but there is some big lobby money behind this

Assume table games 1 year after casino opens similar to how PA rolled out table games in their new casinos.

Doesn't matter to me if, as planned, the Bay Bridge toll goes up to $5 next year and an outrageous $8 in 2013. I'll still be going to Delaware.

O'Malley really sucks. Not as much as Glendenning, but a lot.

You think the I95 tolls won't go up, too?

Probably. But I live on the Eastern Shore and don't pay any tolls to get to Harrington and Dover.

You can also drive to AC for cheaper....
I love going to the shore for a variety of things...the increase def. blows...

Where on the shore do you live? wouldn't Arundel Mills be closer than DE? or equivalent?

Best news I have gotten from MD yet..

Thank you for contacting State Delegate Kipke regarding this issue. Delegate Kipke supports your rights to play poker. He will look into this when the legislator comes back in Session in January.

Thank you,

Not to derail, but tolls haven't gone up in like 20 years. If you're going to troll, blame every governor and legislator in your lifetime, and then blame Ehrlich for signing off on the ICC, which is why the tolls are going up.

This is a difficult issue....

Yes you are correct...we should have been gradually increasing over the years. And don't even get me going about the ICC, what a huge waste...it will alleviate NO traffic...I drive by it and want to spit on it.

However...
Times are very tough, not in our state as much as others but still tough, with gas prices fluctuating and people's commute times increasing the toll increases put a serious dent in peoples already tight budgets

Good for you for contacting them...I actually had that job once (Aide to Senator from Baltimore County)...those Delegates have it made...get paid 37k a year just to show up for 90 days a year...

Were you talking about the internet pokerz or table game legislation?

Write back maybe and say Kipke should support the referendum on table games that is going to be put to a vote

Then we are entirely in agreement. But I'd rather pay a few extra bucks to go to OC (which should probably subsidize the bay bridge, since they are the VAST beneficiary) than have the bridge fall apart as I'm driving over it.

Selfishly bumping my own thread...

Article in the Baltimore Sun about the planned Baltimore City Casino:
http://www.baltimoresun.com/news/mar...,1963908.story

Cliffs:
* Harrah's was the only qualified bidder
* They anticipate a table games referendum to be voted on before construction begins
* Would bring WSOP circuit events to Baltimore
* Reading between the lines...no way a casino get built in Charm City without table games being passed
