California SB1463 Action Plan

SB 1463 is currently awaiting a hearing from the Senate Governmental Organization Committee. Here is a list of the State Senators in the committee and a way to contact them. Most of them are thru facebook but the rest have quick contact forms that require you to be in the district.

Please help ask for support with SB 1463 and nicely ask for a hearing date to be scheduled as soon as possible. Also the Co-Author of SB 1463 Sen. Roderick Wright is the first name on the list, please just thank him for his support rather than ask for it.

Done, thank you for posting. I really think if California got Ipoker up and running it would be hugely successful and a great example for other states to follow.

Done & thanks for posting. For a couple of the direct e-mail links, you will have to enter a zip code within that person's district to get through.

Re: California SB1463 Action Plan

Your welcome guys, thanks again for the help.

That's good news about the sports betting hearing. I imagine the 2 bills will take similar paths to legislation so we can know what to expect in the process ahead.

SB 1463 looks in good shape to pass the SGOC, but anything can happen and we can still try to lock this in for the May 8th hearings.

What makes you say it's in good shape?

"but even if the Legislature enacts the measure, sports betting could not begin until the federal government also lifts a ban on the activity." from the article

Is this true for online pokes too?

No. There is a federal law that bans sports betting in all but four states. There is no federal law that bans online poker. The DOJ used to say that the federal Wire Act did so, but now says that the Wire Act only applies to sports wagering. The states currently have a green light for all forms of legalized Internet wagering except sports.

Re: California SB1463 Action Plan

The four states thing is kind of a myth, under PAPSA, actual sports betting is banned everywhere but licensed Nevada casinos, two states got exemptions for sports lotteries and New Jersey was given a one year window to get it's casinos grandfathered in but they failed to do so.

I was mostly stressing that even though it appears in good shape anything can happen. But I do believe it does look in good shape to pass it's first hearing, however I am not an expert in the process and was unaware when the amendments would be happening. From your post in the 1463 thread it does seem like this bill is being amdended for a better chance if not better bill.

I believed it was in good shape for SGOC because 100% of the committee unanimously approved a sports betting bill that would require the future lifting of a federal ban. Intrastate poker would not need this thanks to the DoJ reversal in December. This showed that everyone in the committee believes in a citizen's right to gamble with their money, even in ways the feds currently deem illegal.

Even if/when it does pass the SGOC it will still be a huge battle, or even before it reaches it's first hearing. Does anybody with more knowledge on this process have any suggestions on where else our voices would be best heard right now? We'd need a big push for the Governor.
