Re: Best country for USA players to move
The situations are still changing in the EU, US, Canada. The US figures to get national sites and they are big compared to other countries. Double taxes; I think you would pay just your US taxes, at least in the EU.
The weather in the UK and at some parts of Canada are about the same; not too hot, not too cold, just the winter has about no sunshine (in the UK). But one needs to pass the point system to get in Canada, UK. If one is from the EU, then it's easy to move in the EU, especially to UK, just about drag and drop and that's it and a couple of good pages of instructions will be enough to set it all and one figures to be there at least till pension without additional problems (in other EU countries one needs to get new permissions e.g. every five years, until one might gets the nationality but one needs to pass the language test then and generally need to pay enough taxes during a period like five years and longer if one is not from an EU country. The US taxes might not count. One can't pay taxes in most EU countries of the poker winnings as it's not legal to tranfer money to the .com sites; only the national sites are fine but it's tax free), and no taxes on winnings, just that one can't expect to stay on pension if one doesn't have enough of it, but I am not sure. Costs depend of where in the UK one lives, it not being expensive at the level of Manchester and up, and even London is up to easily an option as long as one doesn't live in the city center.

This has nothing to do with anything...
What I am saying is that the gov't may be interested in banning "illegal offshore gaming" so that Canadians are forced to play on their provincial poker sites.
Some people might think this is cool, but it is not realistic to expect to be able to play for a living on one of these regulated sites.
Anyways, bottom line is that the legality of poker in Canada is uncertain, and the recent developments in both Canada and the USA make it even more uncertain.

Establish a business in any country, say you'll provide a few work places, and they will meet you with open arms. Not sure how that's done legally, but I'm sure any government would be grateful for that. And there are lots of cheap start ups to think of, then as long as it goes breaking even, you're good.

Re: UK
1) yes
2) lol, no. u cant just walk into a country and demand citizenship. u wont be able to even get permanent residency if ur plan is just to play poker. unless of course u have a parent who is british, then u can apply for citizenship by descent (i did this)
3) US citizens must pay taxes wherever they are in the world

Dual citizenship-Irish and American, so I'm a memeber of European Union. Looking for ideas
I have dual citizenship-- Irish and American, which makes me a member of the European Union. This allows me to live and work in 27 countries in Europe.
Can anyone suggest where I should live, and if I'll be able to use my old poker account or if I'll be allowed to open a new one with my Irish passport and Europe address?
I have two uncles that live in rural Ireland, yet I was thinking I could possibly find poker players to room with already living in Europe.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

Re: Best country for USA players to move
I am in dominican republic right now however i am a US citizen. I just play ftp for a living and now I obv cant. Being that I had about twice as much on my ftp account than my bank account I am in desperate need to start building again. What information do euro sites and party poker require? I mean, i am going to set up a bank account here, but do I need some sort of proof saying that I am resided here or something (i.e. driver license, passport etc...)? Btw, this place is great if you ask me. I am in cabarete. It has tourist elements but it is not as resorty as punta cana. It is also fairly close to the states. And the best part is that it is cheap. I can get a nice 1 bedroom steps from the beach for as low as 590/mo. Their is night life and a ton of active stuff to do during the day.

The poker sites should be working fine in any of the EU countries, I'm playing on FT and PS as I type this. Although in some of the countries you are taxed on any winnings http://www.bonusblackjack.org/europe-blackjack/ so you'll need to consider that before deciding where to move to. Scroll down towards the bottom of this link for more details on which countries will tax you. http://www.bonusblackjack.org/europe-blackjack/
The UK is tax free for gambling. I would think you'll probably need to set up a new account, using a european credit card/bank account and your Irish passport, I don't think FT/PS are allowing any u.s. players to change their address details. Are the sites software blocked by users IP address? Is there anything to stop you getting one of your uncles in Ireland to set up an account in their name, and you using that account from where you are now? Or can you not access the software at all?

Re: Best country for USA players to move
It kinda seems like thailand is the only realistic option because most other countries it'll be a huge pain to get a visa unless you get a job offer there...?

Re: Best country for USA players to move
I don't know why you would "need" a visa or residency to go to Canada. It's pretty easy to cross the border to visit as an American citizen right? I think all you need is a passport. I've been reading online and consensus seems to be an American can visit Canada for 6 months, at which point you can apply for a visa after that if you want to stay. Really all you would need is to open a bank account there, but I can't imagine that'd be too much of a problem.

It's tied greatly to my desire to live some place that the government isn't making worse and worse decisions.
I wasn't anti-government until about 2008, now I am. Not completely anti, I just think our country is run so badly. Fire all of Congress and put smart business people in charge. Maybe Trump would be a good president. I wonder what things would be like if we suspended the current government, and let Trump, Ventura, maybe Action Dan and some others run things for a year or two.
I think Ross Perot would stand a better chance at winning now than in the 90s. Is he still alive?
