It worked for a couple of hours only. It's just a crazy wall he has. Still, let's get our "likes" in and show the support.

Everyone: if you live in Rep. Cantor's district, please post or PM to let me know. I'll have a request for you.

@Kathryn,

"Wow, how is government regulation of anything going to improve it?"

That's a good question. Typically, government regulation improves nothing. In this case, though, the improvement comes because it addresses even worse government actions.

Much like how regulation of alcohol is superior (from the standpoint of limited government and individual liberty) to Prohibition, licensing of online poker is superior to government efforts to stop adults from playing poker in their own homes with their own money. We don't need a federal nanny in our own homes to police our Internet usage. I know I don't!

As for the rest of it, the legislation addresses problem gaming far better than a de facto prohibition does. On that topic, while various addictions (food, shopping, etc.) are a very real issue for a small minority of the population, it is sad that those who oppose adults playing poker use this to justify their big government Internet censorship plans. They then, after empowering government to patrol our lives, wonder how government could even consider bans of fast food.

It's time to support liberty. For more, please check out my interview with Grover Norquist: http://poker.blogtownhall.com/2010/0...ne_poker.thtml

Something you can try -- when you are posting a comment (as opposed to an open post), and you use a cut and paste thing, put a - or something at the beginning and end of it after you paste it.

In other words, I think some of the pages might be set up not to take cut and paste but you can still do it if you just type a single character at the beginning and at the end of whatever you pasted.

This, of course, is irrelevant if what you're talking about wasn't a cut and paste situation.

I've had this problem as well. It sort of defeats the point of wasting time posting on FB if posts/likes don't appear. I've created a few back up accounts after I noticed posts I made weren't visible when signed out or signed in under a different name. makes me think I'm not the only one and many of our posts and likes aren't being counted.

I've decided this FB thing is a wast of time and lawmakers can't possible look at whats written if half of posts don't even show up. WTF is the point of wasting my ****ing time if posts/likes don't show up. We shouldn't be wasting time with FB its a joke lets focus on writing letters.

**** you FB

Here's a letter from Senator Pat Toomey I received recently he's on the super committee.

Quote:
Dear Earthling

Thank you for contacting me about the Internet Gambling Prohibition, Poker Consumer Protection, and Strengthening UIGEA Act (H.R. 2366). I appreciate hearing from you.

I recognize the increasing prevalence of internet poker and the impact the Department of Justice's recent actions have had on many Pennsylvanians. I also understand the economic implications and other effects of an unregulated internet poker environment.

Specific to your concerns, Representative John Campbell of California introduced the Internet Gambling Regulation, Consumer Protection and Enforcement Act (H.R. 1174) on March 12, 2011. Among its provisions, this measure would allow for the licensing of internet gambling. H.R. 1174 would also establish various consumer protections. The measure is currently pending before the House Judiciary Committee's subcommittee on Financial Institutions and Consumer Credit.

As you may also know, Representative Joe Barton (R-TX) introduced H.R. 2366 on June 24, 2011. Among its provisions, this measure would establish a program for state licensing of Internet poker. H.R. 2366 is currently pending before the House Committees on Energy and Commerce, Financial Services, and the Judiciary for review. While companion legislation has not yet been introduced in the Senate, please be assured that I will keep your thoughts in mind as these bills progress through the legislative process in the House.

Thank you again for your correspondence. Please do not hesitate to contact me in the future if I can be of assistance.

Sincerely,

Signature

Pat Toomey
U.S. Senator, Pennsylvania

What do you tell someone who might support 2366 but thinks all the jobs created will be outsourced? I got this PM on Facebook:

Regarding your support of online gambling, how do you know this will increase US jobs. It looks to me like something that could easily be outsourced to India or China. There would also be no control that would ensure the companies who run online gambling would be American owned.

HR 2366 has a component stating that any poker site has be US based and regulated by a state gaming commission. At least for the first two years all online sites have to be linked to a B&M casino, dog/horse track or land based poker room. After a 2 year period non US companies may be able to apply for US licensing but they will still have to have a US based location to run US operations from. I may be a bit wrong on the non US company thing because I think it's a bit vague in the bill.

As for job outsourcing many jobs will have to been done here as the companies will have land based businesses here so certain jobs from the CEO, Executive and tech jobs down to janitors will have to be based in the US. I doubt there is any assurance that moderators and customer service jobs couldn't be outsourced but I'm sure there will still be 1000s of jobs created that either can't or won't be outsourced.

You can simply log out and verify which posts show and which do not. Most problems are from pages that censor "poker".

Our lobbyists are reporting that the FB efforts are getting a ton of attention. We provide objective evidence of our support, both in total and in comparison to anti-poker posters.

Letters are great. In fact, that this the most important thing we can do. That being said, we can't write a letter every day. IMO it's great that we can do this between letters and phone call. We can also reach out to lawmakers in different states and districts in ways we cannot with letters.
