I would imagine there will be a date companies are allowed to be licensed/going. Those that aren't ready won't be able to and those that are ready will be able to become active. Competitors may even complain and try to stall the process for fairness. It would be a HUUUUUGE advantage to be the first site to go live. Once a site has the biggest player base, it's tough to unseat them from the throne.

An article I read earlier suggested the sites would have to submit to significant testing before going live.

The agreement between 888/Caesar's really has nothing to do with WHEN they & others can go live.

Thanks for the clarification. I thought that perhaps since 888 has been offering games outside the US, this could mean they won't have to go through quite the process brand new US-based software will. Too bad that's not the case.

IowaPolitics.com: Iowa will attempt to follow lead of Nevada, DC in legalizing online poker

http://www.iowapolitics.com/index.iml?Article=259831

State Rep. Jeff Kaufmann, R-Wilton is against online gambling in Iowa.

“I have a problem anytime we’re talking about an expansion of gambling,” said state Rep. Jeff Kaufmann, R-Wilton, a teacher and livestock operator who is a member of the House State Government Committee.

“I don’t give two hoots about the revenue for the state. Absolutely not,” Danielson said. “I’m sorry. We’re in the black. We have a surplus. There’s zero evidence. I don’t think that’s the reason to do this."

McKinney: Laws prohibit online gambling

Quote:
And if Malloy tries to reopen the compact with the two Indian casinos to allow them to conduct online gambling, the result would be a clear violation of the U.S. Constitution's commerce clause. Strengthening penalties in the state would discourage online betting in Connecticut and send gamblers to the casinos.

McKinney said. "It does not matter whether another state says it's legal here, it is not legal over the Internet in Connecticut."

States, Congress Race for Control of Online Gambling

Quote:
Online gambling is set to be the next fierce political battle between the states and the federal government. According to one councilman from Washington DC who supported the online gambling law, the nation's giant casinos have teamed up with Congress to steal the right, and the revenue, away from the states.

Best Chance Yet For Internet Gambling Bill Is 2012

Quote:
“When you have a savvy, shrewd, dogged advocate like Senator [Harry] Reid is, anything is possible,” Allison Binney told tribal gaming officials attending the Western Indian Gaming Conference at the Morongo Casino in Cabazon, California.
Quote:
“Senator Kyl is retiring. This is his legacy year,” Binney said. “There will be things he wants to get done, and he will need Senator Reid’s help to achieve those. So there is definitely opportunity for compromise.”

But Binney, who served five years as staff director of the Senate Indian Affairs Committee before stepping down in 2011, said thepartisan warfare in Congress during this election year makes it almost impossible to pass any bill, much less a controversial measure to legalize Internet poker.

Quote:
“Kyl wants to make sure before he leaves office that there is not a hole ripped in the U.S. law [on Internet gambling],” Brierton told the WIGC audience.

Quote:
Stevens and NIGA Executive Director Jason Giles expressed frustration that Reid still has not introduced an Internet gambling bill after circulating drafts of an Internet poker bill during the lame duck session in 2010.

NIGA helped persuade eight Democratic senators to sign a November 15, 2011 letter urging Reid to make sure tribal interests are addressed in any Internet gambling bill he considers.

“We’re on this, and we’re united,” Stevens said.

First, some context. The news broke last March that Adelson’s Las Vegas Sands Corp. is under federal investigation into whether it has complied with the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act. The act makes it illegal to bribe foreign officials to obtain business deals.
