Re: Obama's Stance on Online Gaming

The debates are irrelevant. Kerry won all of the debates and look what happened.

The issue is Wall Street. O is playing the Wall Street vs. Main Street theme. If the market does not recover, he will say lookee there folks, your retirement accounts are being pilfered by the monied elites.

O's plan is to do nothing and hope the market breaks so that he can point his finger. All he needs is a fiddle and the allegory will be complete.

This should be no surprise as he has no position on anything, except for raising taxes and spending. Where is the platform of the Democratic Party on poker or gaming? Where is his statement or position in favor of online gaming or poker? I can't find it, can you?

Although the Democratics do not have a stance on online gaming, the Replublicans are definately against it.

As for spending, Republicans spend as much as Democratics, mostly at the Federal level. Just think of the Federal spending. If you exempt Social Security, of which Republicans won't touch, the next biggest expenditure is national defense. Show me a Republican that will reduce national defense.

That is why deficits always balloon under Republican administrations.

Ever get that sick feeling when you're about to be runner runnered? Obama favored on the flop, McCain elected on the turn, McCain croaks on the river...

You're right, what happened last election cycle is exactly what will happen this election cycle. The importance of specific issues and the particular dynamics of elections never ever change. Geez, when has debate performance ever been consequential to an election?

What is irrelevant is online gaming. None of the online gaming bills suggested (Frank's bill, Wexler's bill) have had enough support to even come up for a vote. But the bill that targets the practicle flaws in the UIGEA (HR 6870) has made it through Frank's commitee.

D'amato said: “Even those who oppose internet gambling should applaud the passage of this legislation as it provides the most realistic opportunity to block trul unlawful internet gambling transactions”

And that's the difference between democrats and republicans, and Obama and McCain, on online gaming-- democrats, even those opposed to online gaming, can still support sane legislation that will help us; but republicans, even otherwise moderate republicans, are required to fall in lock step on anything concerning online gaming, even if its stupidity is beyond imagination.

McCain has become just one more of Dobson's faithful republican minion and therefore much more of a threat to us than Obama.

All I want is each candidate to state what he will do regarding internet poker. I don't care about all of the emoting, hope and analysis about what you think that they will do.

Likewise, Big Al Dee has endorsed McSame, so I would like to know why the PPA can't get Al and John together shaking hands or even playing a few hands so that we could have a better feeling about what would happen. Either that or the PPA ought to show Al the door and go get someone that we can rely upon.

There is only one piece of information valuable to you in this situation; that of the future. Even the politicians themselves can talk all they want, but it ain't over till it's over. You don't know what they are gonna do until they actually do it. Observe...

The last ten presidential elections in America have been won by candidates that pledged, during their campaigns prior to their elections, that alternative energy investment would be a keystone principle of their energy plans for the country. Ironically, crude oil per barrel costs 10 times what it did 40 years ago. Supply and demand of yester-year's (yester-lenium's) resource has only gone up across the board by leaps and bounds. Translation...

The politicians, all of them, as stunning as it may seem, actually said one thing while doing another, (or in this particular case: while doing nothing). It's a stunning revelation I know, but actions speak louder than words...and this goes double for politicians.

Re: Obama's Stance on Online Gaming

Until we legally seperate 'Poker' from 'Gambling' we will not see much change for the better.

Even in this thread, the term 'gambling' is interchanged with 'poker' many times and THAT is the perception that will kill any plans of real online poker reform.

Standing on a podium promising to legalize online gambling just will not bring in the votes. As has been mentioned, the left and the right both look down on gambling.

Having a legal definition of poker designating it as a game of skill should be the #1 priority of the poker playing community. Period. Until that is done, we are just spinning our wheels.
