Has anyone heard anything about a raise to the max buy-in you can do? Currently its at $100 but with the new addition of Blackjack and Craps at the reservations I was wondering if there were any buy-in increases coming?

I agree. Higher buy-in's would make the games even better.

Plus it would be easier to play 5-10 NL. Its hard with the max at only 100. Everyone starts off Short stacked. No room to manuever post flop.

I mistyped. What I intended to say was "That there is no proposed Bill to increase the limits this legislative session." I omitted the word "no." I should proof read my posts. Sorry for any confusion.

they do just standard rake. ITs not time. I think they rake 5-6 dollars on big pots.

1/2nl, 2/5nl. 100 max buy in, 10% $5 max rake.

Yeah I have heard nothing about them increasing the buyin in Florida games.

The games often become looser than other NL games with higher buyins especially in the 2-5 NL because bigshots will make all in moves early in the 2-5 to try to double up because they want to take shots to build up a large stack.

Rake is capped at $5 with a $1 jackpot drop. They tried timed rake at the Hard Rock and the majority of regulars revolted and went elsewhere until it was changed back just a short while later.

Would be good if we could find some state legislators to get with and move on this. Obviously we need to find out who all the guys were behind the previous gambling expansion bills.

My understanding is that less than a majority in the State Senate can block new legislation. Good luck in getting those Christianazi, minority go home asswipes on board with that since a lot of them ran on a no new gambling expansion plank. A bigger worry to me for Fla gaming is IF Crist is tapped as a VP candidate, what attitude does the new Governor bring to gaming negotiation.

I know Christ is on McCain's short list, but I doubt he'll get the nod. In the even that he does and becomes the next VP the Lt Gov would take over. I don't know much about our Lt Gov, Jeff Kottkamp, but according to his bio he's received awards from various right-wing Christian groups like the Christian Coalition. It's unlikely he'll be on our side.

No matter who's our Governor next year, I doubt any pro-gambling legislation would get passed. With wingnuts like Rhonda Storms who sees gambling as a sin that must be stomped out it just won't happen. Our only chance would to get a ballot initiative, which I don't think applies to raising limits.

Didn't the last change to poker pass through Crist's with him not even signing off on it? Can't that happen again if someone puts another change through?

Blackjack launch slated for Sunday evening. Everyone, please understand: THIS WILL NOT HAVE ANY DIRECT, IMMEDIATE EFFECT ON POKER LAWS.

Sorry for yelling, but some people apparently do not want to hear that or believe it.

I don't forsee anything changing the limit in the future, unless we get a serious coalition going for it. Obviously we could get a lot of money & people behind it, if we get organized. Think about all of the gambling legislation that has passed with really no vocal community support.

A lot of the gambling expansion was either out of the state;s hands wiht the indians or to support dying horestracks. Florida is a godforsaken redneck quagmire for 2/3 of the state and they have a lot of horse farms and people who
make a living from them. Thats a LOT of vocal community support. Poker doesnt have a large natural constituency with a lot at stake on the supply side.

Actually, the newest legislation in Florida that raised our betting limits was designed to give the Florida based businesses, such as Jai Alai frontons and the various horse/dog tracks that house card rooms in the state, the ability to compete on a more level ground with the Seminoles. The Seminoles have long since run single table tournaments that ranged up to a $1,000 buyin where the Florida based rooms were all handcuffed and had to run games with a maximum $32 entry and charged a $13 rake. This started around the same time that the betting limits were raised from a $0.50 max bet years ago. During the height of the poker boom they lobbied heavily to be able to compete on level ground with the Seminoles and congressmen such as Wexler got involved and supported the legislation because he was dedicated to helping Florida based business and offer them a fighting chance to compete.

This is when the Seminoles gave the big finger to the state and ran uncapped poker games to test the waters. The games ran for less than a week before the US Marshalls were called in to shut the games down, but it got their voices heard in Tallahassee... and that's all they really wanted to accomplish. The Seminoles knew all along they were breaking the law and claimed, in the end, it was only due to an executive being out of town that the illegal games were spread in the first place. If that's the case, I'd love to see the documented written reports reprimanding the employees who approved the games.

This is what led to the new compact that allows games other than poker.

The most likely case for any further gambling expansion will fall back on the same reasons - Florida businesses are no longer competing on level ground with the Seminoles.... I really think we're more likely to see the compact that allows the new games overturned as opposed to gambling expansion here. With the exception of the southern Tri-county area (Broward, Dade, Palm Beach), Florida is comprised of mostly conservative republicans with moral and religious agendas.
