NJ online poker legislation (passed) (sites listed in OP) NJ online poker legislation (passed) (sites listed in OP)

Lawmakers are considering the largest expansion of gambling in New Jersey since the 1970s, with Internet gaming, sports betting, online lottery sales and barroom horse wagering all possible before the end of the year.
This isn't enough for the GD buggy whip industry? They need poker players to give them cash directly too?

But some experts worry that the new options will lure more residents into compulsive gambling and financial jeopardy. And gaming analysts say it’s difficult to predict how much a proliferation of new gambling options would simply grab money already being spent on other types of gambling.

“That’s been a real question — at what point do you have saturation?” said Assemblyman John Burzichelli, D-Gloucester.
This explains why he endorses a technology in B+M casinos bill but slightly balks at the Igamming bill. He (or who he is lobbying for) endorses the opinion that internet gaming detracts from B+M play.

Sigh. When will they understand that internet gaming, especially internet POKER, complements the B&M casino experience, not replaces it. So frustrating.

If only the idiot governor had signed it the first time around...

I thought this was an interesting snip-it from the article:

"An Assembly committee, meanwhile, is expected to hold hearings this year about the possibility of building a casino at the Meadowlands Sports Complex."

Is this going to happen just in time for the super bowl?

When NY gets casinos, thats NJs only move. Also, its the only thing that can save that crazy mall.

There is one (not sure which) that will be held in Metlife Stadium. I think it's 2 years away.

As usual more bad news for NJ residents. Totally agree with Mr. Ace that we are being slowrolled by Lesniak.

Back to Carbon for me. Hopefully in 2013 we will have some decent options.

I posted this on Burzichelli's wall just now:

Mr Burzichelli. Please support the online gambling bill. 1) The gaming will increase revenue to the state 2) Many Online poker players will relocate here further increasing tax revenues across the state. 3) Saturation is not an issue here. Casinos can benefit from being able to market on their online sites bringing further traffic into the struggling A.C area. 4) This is also a civil liberties issue. Writing on behalf of online poker players in New Jersey, We deserve the freedom to do what we want in the privacy of our own homes without interference from the government.

The online poker community has been victim of politics and special interests both here in New Jersey and on a federal level for long enough. Please do what you can to support the bill. Our community will be watching you comments and actions very closely.

Thank you for your consideration

Link to his facebook page is here: http://www.facebook.com/johnburzichelli

I figure posting something is better than doing nothing despite our powerless position. Maybe some other posters can write on his wall too. Maybe we should go after other NJ politicians who are holding this up?

Any word on progress/movement?

Tomorrow is when according to Lesniak an updated version of the senate bill should move out of committee. IF everything else goes according to plan the bill will get to Christie's desk by mid April. Fingers crossed.

I think believe the bill will pass both houses and Christie (hopefully) will sign it. Don't think online poker will be up and running by September though.

By far the most important thing is the bill becoming law. That is all that matters. If it becomes law in April but the sites are not yet running in September its really no big deal. Right now we are living in a universe of "if". If we transition to living in a world of "when" that is cause for celebration.

That's a reason to be excited...celebration begins when "cards are in the air".

nothing today, huh?

Session on the Senate bill scheduled for 4-3. See legislative schedule for that date at the NJ legislature's website: http://www.njleg.state.nj.us/Default.asp . Not sure what the plan is. Can someone with the right sources provide more info?

I tweeted John Brennan asking him for an update. He was with Christie for a public event for the Revel casino yesterday. If I get anything from him or his twitter feed I will post it here.

If the last pokernews article is accurate things are looking good. The reason for the delays appear to be technical instead of problematic opposition. Things have consistently moved along in this process, just more slowly than Lesniak always predicts.

Sen. Ray Lesniak featured in first issue of eGaming Review/N. America, on his fight to legalize online gambling in NJ (by April, he says).

Nice article...very encouraging. It does sound like CE was a big hold up for the state process.

Informative article, but I laughed when they talked about the casinos Trump 'owns'.

Let us keep our fingers crossed.

N.J. lawmakers set hearing on plan for online gaming [newsworks.org]
A New Jersey Senate committee has scheduled a hearing Tuesday on legislation that would allow online wagering on casino games in the Garden State.

Man I hope its something on the technical side, and not a new development that puts passage of the bill in jeopardy. New Jersey based legal internet poker, then spreading to other states would be such a great thing. But its second and goal on the one. No more BS, GET THIS DONE
