The Nevada Gaming Commission is asking for comments by interested persons wth respect to the just-launched "field trial" of the Ultimate Gaming online poker service:

” Nevada Gaming Commission Chairman
Peter Bernhard said. “During and after all field trials, I encourage members of the public, gaming licensees and
other interested parties to bring to the Gaming Control Board any questions, concerns, issues, and problems
experienced in attempting to use Nevada’s licensed and approved intrastate systems."

Is it me, or does it look like the web page was thrown together in a couple of hours. Just go to the "About Us" section and it is glaringly obvious no one even proof read it. Did they also not know they would open today?

You can register and deposit from anywhere in the U.S. You can play only while in Nevada. A Nevada address is not required.

Why would you accept deposits and then not let people play?

I am a NV resident and am sitting in my home in front of my computer. I registered and deposited and now I am being told that my address cannot be verified. I have a Samsung Galaxy express on AT&T.

Now I am being told to email customer service?

Seriously?

I am sitting in Nevada, have all the address and idscan required, can see the games, but cannot play ....

I could not get verified either. Apparently, you cannot use Verizon for your cell phone contact AND you need to have your cellphone on to play, even if you are playing on Cox or some other local in Nevada wired internet access.

I likely will point out in comments that leaving a cell phone on, with someone in Nevada, does not preclude access from outside Nevada. (Yes, I know there are other location checks, but the comment stands .... the requirement of a Nevada cell phone, adds little to prevent someone bent on "cheatng" the location system.)

I may suggest that IF new account is opened legitimately in Nevada, and the connection for play is some local cable provider, then maybe production of a cable/utility bill should suffice ..... Alternatively, since EVERY online poker operator WILL have a physical casino location, allow an operator to eyeball new players and their ids for verification.

Deposits are accepted from out of state as well, so accepting a deposit doesn't guarantee that they will be able to verify your location as within NV when you try to play. The two aren't connected.

Regulators are pretty strict about verifying the location of players at the time of play. There must be something preventing it. Your best bet is to email customer support.

From what I have read in the NVG thread, it isn't a requirement that your cell phone be on to play, but it sure helps.

The regulators require that a site verify that a player is located in NV at the time of play. There are lots of technical things that can get in the way. For instance (off the top of my head), the cell service might queue the request for tower locations, or your IP address might temporarily resolve to some place outside of NV.

It's not great, but I guess that's why this is a "field trial". Hopefully they'll find ways to improve service in time.

Don't forget, it's not like it used to be where anyone anywhere would throw up a site without any oversight (and your money was always at risk one way or another). The sites in NV will always be tightly regulated, which means strict standards that must be met at every logon. On the other hand, you have better protections from fraud, cheating, etc., and someone to appeal to (Nevada Gaming Commission) in the case of site abuse.

The email addresses provided for sending in a scan of my government id both bounced back for me .... that was discouraging.

Look, these issues SHOULD be addressed. If the regulatory burden is hurting play and there are less problematic ways to verify location, like using a local wired connection, that should suffice.

The point in this thread is encouraging players to tell the Regulators what is working and what is not, from the legitimate players' perspective ....

Reliance on cell phones seems likely to be a real problem:

(1) Nevadans who are having a lot of difficulty getting verified AND likely will have a lot of difficulty satisfying a "cell phone check" while playing, despite logging in from Nevada on a local internet provider ... Wait until some players, siting at home in Nevada, get booted out of a tournament final table because their phone failed a ping test.

(2) Tourists who want to play, but do not know to bring their cell phone, or have some other non-compliant cell phone provider .... like Vodaphone or 1,000 other non-Nevada providers.

(3) Anyone who has their cellphone inside a place, like many casinos, where the cell service sucks or is even blocked.

Well, I did not deposit until after I had verified the text message and received the "Location verification is enabled. Login and Play" message from them. Then suddenly my location could not be verified...

I just don't want this to suck for the recreational guys who hear them talking about it on sports radio and decide to check it out.

We online regs have all dealt with far worse issues than this. I don't care about weather or not I can make it work.

If anyone wants to provide background for player comments to the Nevada Gaming Control Board,

I'll collect input at www.nevadapokerissues.com, which I just created.

There is an email address there to send me player comments.

I expect to offer some general comments to the Gaming Control Board.

(Generally, I think player input may be able to move the bar a little on location verification and the difficulty I think lies ahead with this "cell phone" system ..... No knock on Ultimate Poker intended, they work with what the regulations require of them.)

I have Verizon which for whatever reason is not supported by them. I used a friends cell number. Hopefully this won't come back to bite me.

Excellent. I was about to respond to your previous post to say that posting the problems in this thread won't do any good as comments have to be made directly to the Nevada Gaming Commission to be seen. As they haven't yet issued a mechanism to receive such comments, your comment gathering is an excellent way to eventually reach them with the concerns of players.

Here is generally what they will be looking for:
Quote:
The Board and Commission will be gathering pertinent data and comments during field trials, to see whether our State’s concerns are being met as to system security, privacy protection, gaming integrity, location verification, prohibition of underage gaming, play by vulnerable persons, and assistance to law enforcement.

Comments like this, which are just complaints/concerns about your personal account issues at the site should be posted in the NVG thread, where there is a UltimatePoker room rep reading and responding. Let'e keep this thread about what players want the NV Gaming Commission to know about the new site(s).

I'd love to know how Nevada feels about Ultimate Poker openly using technology from Iovation, a company run by a man who was a key figure in the Ultimate Bet scandal.
