Romney also said he doesn't support legalizing online gaming. He's says he's against it because of the social costs and people's addictive gambling habits.

This isn't all that shocking. When will people realize that establishment Republicans are not actually for freedom or limited government, let alone Mitt Romney? He's basically Obama-lite.

Doesn't agree because of social costs and gambling addiction?!?! Er so what about that kind of tiny little city in Nevada, oh what's it called, the ****ing gambling capital of the world?!?!?!?!

The people who thought Romney would be good for poker are the same who thought Obama would be good for poker. Keep dreaming fellas.

Well, they are the only two candidates left. Unless of course you are dreaming.

This hasn't been such a good week for potential i-poker legislation news.

I think good for and just for are 2 different things. Unless he doesn't think he will be the GOP candidate, there is isn't much upside to this. He will already get the social conservative vote. He has the most money. It doesn't make much sense to me. Idk why he answered at all with this response.

Is it so hard for reporters to make a distinction between poker and gaming in general? I want to know what Mitt specifically has to say about online poker.

And unless he makes a distinction soon, this could be really bad, because he'll be tempted to not support poker legislation in the future in order to avoid more flip flop accusations.

Congressmen on the financial services committee don't know the difference between casino gambling and poker. Hell, most of them think online poker is video poker. Shouldn't be surprising that journalists and presidential candidates don't know the difference.

Online poker is not an issue anyone really cares about politicians flip flopping on. He can easily get around this by signing the bill as president and saying the bill provides protection/regulation designed to prevent compulsive gambling.

I like that he didn't give an opinion those weeks ago to keep his option to win over Nevada if necessary, but now that he doesn't need to lock Nevada and a boost in campaign donations, he can play for the social conservatives on super tues. (or andelson when newt drops out??)

it's almost certainly what I'd do if I wanted to win a republican presidential nomination.

Romney's gameplan seems to be to avoid major blunders that could cost him the nomination. This had me feeling like there is no way he'd come out in favor of i-gaming. My hope was he'd take a more neutral stance. Now we have to hope he flip-flops once he's got the nomination locked up.

In all likelihood, theres not going to be online poker in the US for a ridiculous amount of time, and if there ever is, it will be unfavorable and likely near unbeatable for almost all pros. The state bills look disgusting as is, I'd hate to see a federal one once it reaches the finish line. We're a niche population of a niche population, we have no voice and no one cares about all the easy money we used to be able to make. On the offchance something does happen in the next 5 years, expect payouts equivalent to the lottery at best. The U.S. is an oppressive statist society and its not changing any time soon.

Yeah, but he likes to play poker, so it's ok for people to play poker. What a joke.
