Women's Sunday right or wrong? Women's Sunday right or wrong?

04-23-2011 , 08:43 AM
I sent this email to stars I would like to know how everyone else feels about having this tournament online?

I would like to complain about the Women's Sunday tournament. I would like to have this extra tournament in my schedule and to make it just a women's one is not fair. I can possibly understand a Women's tournament in a live setting to try to get more women into poker that do not want to play with men. But why the need for gender segregation online when people can not even see who they are playing with or whether the other players are male or female? I would like to request that either this tournament be made available to everyone as i think it is completely wrong to segregate by gender in an online setting.

Not the first time this kind of topic is being discussed here.
Never ends well.

you dont think gender segregation is wrong? Not that poker is a sport but in many sports or similar games men or women have an advantage, often due to different physical strengths, stamina etc and poker is one of the few games where we are on an equal footing. The best poker player in the world could be male or female or any kind of ethnicity. I think this is something which is a rare and good thing to have in a game. To then take this away be needlessly segregating genders as in other games i think takes something away from this. We should celebrate the fact that we can all play together not seek to divide ourselves as in many other games.

wtf is ur problem OP? let them have it if they want. if its not gender specific maybe less women would want to play. try not being so narrow minded and gtfo. you just want to play it bcoz u think u could beat a bunch of women, which u prob can't.

get a sex change, or deal with it.

i've always wondered why senior discounts are legal in the US. they should pay more for being so slow and annoying.

OP are you really this obtuse? Stars always wants to expand their player base and think that marketing a Ladies tournament might get more females playing.

Didnt think people would feel like this. Im all for people playing the more people playing the better, but dont see how more people would play because of an online one. In a casino yeh, but online its not like anyone who doesnt play already would see this, i dont see how a woman would think well i wouldnt sit on my laptop and play when i cant see the people, but now i know theres a women on the otherside of that avatar im in.

I get the impression no one else sees a problem with it but thats why i asked to find out if it was just me. I can see the argument about getting people playing i just dont think it applies online. But it feels like there is a tide of people against what i said so thats fine fair enough, guess its just me that doesnt like the principle of it. Well me and shaundeeb if you believe what he said after the ladies event.

I agree with fatboi78, Live it makes sense, online not so much
how the hell do they even enforce this anyway? Do you have to attach pics of your vagina with your entry fee?

pretty sure stars makes you click male/female when you make an account, and pretty sure there's a few other tournaments to play in on a sunday...

It's likely not just you; but it is a matter of perception. Understand that it's meant to be a special treat for a normally under-represented group in online poker (women), in much the same way as an Australia-only freeroll would be a special thing for Aussies. The intention in both my examples, respectively, is not to make a "no men allowed" or "no non-aussies allowed" event. You ought not to feel discriminated against when you're part of the majority, and have access to 99%+ of the tournaments stars runs.

Possible justification for having a problem with it, if anyone cares
Spoiler:
Females in general put up with a lot of crap and people trying to chat them up constantly on the internet, and it's only more prominent in male-dominated communities. I would wager that a good chunk of the ladies playing in this tournament don't have any specific giveaways in their usernames or avatars that they're female, and for precisely this reason. Outing a players' gender when the player has not chosen to make it clear, potentially exposing them to increased lewd comments or other crap in chat, is the only justifiable reason I can think of to oppose such an event. It's also not a strong reason; online poker has higher standards of behavior in the chat with regards to this than many other game environments, and most people playing aren't looking to chat up. It's also her own decision to play in this particular tournament and thus out that fact to anyone who wants to observe.

op its part of a promotion to get more women playing and/or playing more often.

if you want more tourneys on a sunday just ask for more tourneys on a sunday...

I'm not much for segregating. Maybe it would be better not to have special women's events online. We are all just humans. But the chat side I can understand. Maybe women want to chat while playing with each other. There I can undestand the minority thinking.

But this is more about poker and less about chat, so maybe there shouldn't be special events.
