I saw an interview tonight on CNN between Wolf Blitzer and John McCain regarding the hearings on Syria today. At the end of the interview Blitzer shows a clip of McCain playing poker( I couldn't see what site) during the 3-hour congressional session. Now Fox News is running a short story on it as well. Said he was playing for play money. I don't have the clip, but sort of ironic.

Here's an article...

We should be bombing him with pro poker tweets and phone calls. (pun intended)

The PPA should run with this:

If a US Senator can play poker for play money while people's lives are at risk....then why can't his constituents play with their own money in the privacy of their own home?

but let's try to frame it in a way where we're not giving him too much ****. we don't need people in his circle pressuring him to disavow online poker.

it's just that if i was on the other side i'd see this as a good opportunity to put some pseudo-psychological parallels like: after losing the 2008 election john mccain went into a deep depression. many people when they're depressed turn to gambling and that can often lead to gambling addiction, as evidenced by senator mccain's gambling addiction getting in the way of his work (photo above) and the full extent his gambling addiction has ravaged his family life is immeasurable.

it's a testament to the voracity of the disease that it could grip a war hero who endured 4 years of daily torture at the hands of the RUTHLESS vietcong prison guards, maybe the most ruthless prison guards ever (not bragging), but whose will can STILL be eroded by this menace, this persistent plague on our country which is available on every common smart phone, something 92% of american 12-years-own or have regular access to!

if john mccain can't resist gambling addiction, what chance does your 12-year-old child have?? that kid's a pussy. reban this **** immediately.

that's what i'd say, anyway

IMO, it's a political hot potato with very little potential upside. McCain himself tweeted that he was "caught" playing online poker, as if it is a sin (albeit minor, since it was play money- VIP Poker app). The backlash could be devastating if any attempt is made to capitalize on this incident. Let it die.

Idk if you guys watched that hearing yesterday, but it made one thing very clear about our government. None of them give a **** about what we want.

Well, in theory he should have been giving his full attention to the hearing at hand (on potentially going to war/strikes in Syria)....so I would argue if he was seen doing anything other than focusing on the hearing (Clash of Clans, Chess, whatever on the phone), he was "caught."

Regardless, agree. No upside.

Sen. McCain was caught playing free money poker on the Senate floor and he tweeted about it, giving us an opportunity to tweet back with admonitions for him to support the game. That's the value I see in it. That's why we're simply replying to McCain's tweet.

Also, I do feel it was entirely inappropriate for him to play games during a debate on...GOING TO WAR.

Capitalizing on such an inappropriate behavior to push one's own political agenda can be seen as inappropriate itself and result in a media or political backlash. It's very risky, imo.

Meh, I think what he did was fine. He already had a meet with the president, knows what he supports, and everything on the floor outside of what he does is inconsequential to his plan. It's not like minds are changed on the Senate floor, for now everything is theater, and what's more important is what he puts out in the media.

Absolutely nothing actionable here IMO. This is bad exposure for poker and does not deserve any more attention.

I couldn't agree more. Frankly, he wasn't playing poker, he was playing a poker-styled play money bingo game. To equate the two is bad for us, if anything we should be making the distinction that what he was playing isn't really poker.

McCain wanted to get caught, though unsure about the political motive.

This is a horrible idea. No way this is anything but bad publicity.

It's out there anyway. We tweeted to him (and just to him) that he should support legislation.
