Re: Your biggest downswing at MSNL

ofc winrate does not affect "variance" which is std deviation squared (tho it's hard to make sense out of what variance truly is, given the unit would be in $^2 or ptbb^2.)

However, the smaller your winrate, the more likely you are to have an x buyin downswing. This should be pretty obvious but, imagine 2 5/10 players. One is a 5ptbb winner and the other is 1ptbb. They both play 50k hands. The 5ptbb player should be up 50k on average, the 1ptbb player should be up 10k. If they have the same std dev, the 5ptbb is WAYYYY less likely to lose x buyins over n hands than the 1ptbb player is. So to clarify, variance and winrate are not related, but the number of buyins a winning player could lose over n hands as a result of purely variance IS related to winrate and this might as well be considered "variance"

Players like drgiggy dont have any variance, thats what I learned last few years. When they click allin, servers generate autowin.

-27k for march at 5/10.

my 1st losing month ever. my worst ds prior to march was like ~10 BI and i thought it would never happen to me, but it did. reading this thread has been great for my confidence seeing that it happens to the best players in the world, so its not just me playing like a donk

Re: Your biggest downswing at MSNL

You guys saying 10 BI is your biggest downswing, how long have you been playing poker? I go on a 20 BI downswing just about every month. Either you haven't been playing long or I must really suck at poker.

According to PTR Ching__Ching on Party is b/e for the last 270k hands or so and he's been regarded as a beast and one of the best on Party at the stakes he plays for ages. Scary thought rreally.

Re: Your biggest downswing at MSNL

i used to think that people who had -40bb downers really wasnt all that good at poker cause i never have them.

then i realized that i probably do have them, without thinking about it. its not that im a robot, i tilt like everyone else, i just find it pretty weird to define a downswing as "number of buyins from my highest peak". i mean if i win 10 buyins one hour and then lose 30 buyins in the next hour, i wouldnt feel as if im on a 30 buyin downer. thats silly imo. u guys look at stupid graphs too much.

This is like buying in for $50 ... running it up to $X ... losing it all. And figuring we only lost $50. Where most of us would argue that we lost $X

Re: Your biggest downswing at MSNL

dropped 100+ within 1 week playing mostly 10/20 and 5/10, mixed in with a -40k sesh at 25/50

then had a 80k hand b/e stretch to follow this DS playing 5/10 and 3/6

now on a mini upswong at 3/6 and 5/10... hooooray

25+ bi downswings, should be pretty common if you play some volume.

Re: Your biggest downswing at MSNL

i had two 30 BI downers. it really destroys ur confidence...

btw i really hated on the term allinEV during that preiod, cause according to HEm back then i was only 12 BI under expectation.
there should be some factors off getting coolered every friggin time...
