I think YourDoom is a tool like the rest of you, but doing what you are trying to do is also quite douchey. Regardless of his poker skill, if he can teach someone to make money at poker, isn't he a good poker coach?

I have no idea if he actually is good at coaching, and I am definitely not endorsing his coaching. But at the same time, I am not saying bad things about it either. It seems that based on his testimonials, he has actually helped several people (assuming all of them are legitimate).

***Disclaimer*** This post is intended to be completely unbiased and it's this fact that is making me sound like a non-YourDoom hater.

What about math teachers who get students to memorize multiplication tables and solutions to problems without teaching students how to actually solve the problems? Or a spiritual leader who preaches about the second coming of the one eyed lizard god, but also talks of being good to your neighbor and working hard to get what you want in life?

Helping people isn't enough. These people aren't signing up for a course in self improvement. They're paying for qualified poker instruction. It's quite likely that he has helped a good number of his students. It's possible that if he coached you for some time you might also make some improvements. Clearly improvement isn't the only qualifier for legitimate poker coaching.

It's pretty useless to simply post that you don't know anything about his coaching, but are acting as an unbiased observer and everybody else is a biased douche. Who else is supposed to criticize unqualified coaches if not for respected successful poker players who have been exposed to his material?

I mean if you pay him $2000 and your bottom line due to him goes up > $2000 (impossible to know for sure how much of the bottom line is due to him, but if someone starts to have drastically higher profits is what I mean), then as a poker coach he has done his job. Not sure how you can refute that, and that is all I was saying above.

Saw them at Lolla this year. They were super weird but had fun regardless.

I think people take issue with the fact that he claims to be the best in the world at what he does (i don't know if this is still true today, but he used to claim to be the best 50bb player in the world out of the blinds). Then he makes posts like the one linked which are just fundamentally terrible and basically proves how little he knows when he decides to engage in an argument on the matter.

Sure someone could pay him 2k and benefit more than 2k from the stuff he teaches them. The point is they gave him that 2k based on him convincing them he's something he's not and most likely could have given the same 2k to another coach and had a greater benefit.

Yeah good points, I agree his advertising is over the top, but that's standard for advertising. Most importantly I think it's up to 2p2 (who is receiving money for his listing) and his students to do their due diligence.

Of course, if someone gives their input in a respectful way, I think that is okay, but it should be done in the form of a PM to Mat or email to Forumcop or whatever. The only reason I commented is I thought kjemmy's post/plan was out of line.

Is this **** still going on? I will admit I haven't been following the topic really but wasn't all this over a year ago? Maybe he has since come up with more claims that he can't really back up but if not when is it going to stop? Maybe it's all warranted, I really don't know.

But at this point isn't there enough info out there about the guy that people can see the good and the bad and make their own judgement about whether they want to be coached by the guy or not? Being on some 1 year+ crusade to bring this guy down can't be healthy for a person...esp if it's just about the same thing it was about a year ago. I guess I just try not to involve myself in all that negative **** anymore...maybe it's necessary tho but it seems to be getting excessive imo.

He very strictly bumhunts, so I don't really think this is true. Also, I know at least one person who doesn't bumhunt winning 8-10bb/100 over 500k+ hands in "today's high stakes games". My real question is why do you care so much to go on a personal crusade against someone? When was the last time you played with him anyway?

personal crusade? what are you talking about? i disagree with how the coaching forum is run today and it's under discussion atm, and right now yourdoom is the easiest to use as an example since he advertises so extremely aggressively and has the biggest topic in the coaching forum together with thinkitthrough.

i think it's important that when 2p2 takes money for and approves coaches, that they can't make outrageous claims like some of these coaches do. the way it works now, unless you can prove his winrates are not true, your post will be deleted, no matter what; coach can say ''i'd beat 25-50 6max for 20bb/100h in today's games'', and unless you have proof that he cannot, you're not allowed to let potential customers that it's not true. this has got nothing to do with a personal crusade against YD; he's just the easiest to bring up and use as an example.
