kind of a big deal
ted talk on internet porn
The message gets kind of muddled (or maybe i'm just too hungover), but at the end is he advocating not fapping, or just not fapping to porn?

^It's not entirely clear, but I think the bottom line is that porn is bad--not that fapping is bad. Alot of the positive side effects he mentions near the end of the video undoubtedly stem from less masturbation (rather than less porn) but if one decides not to view any porn, then it is probably true that that person would end up masturbating considerably less often.

I think it is mostly about not fapping to porn. For example, he says that there wasnt an ED problem due to fapping until there was high speed internet so I think he focuses on the dopamine production in relation to porn only. He probably thinks fapping is not a big deal unless porn is used, however almost every guy uses porn for greater stimulation so there are few to none "fantasyfappers" left.

Re: ***OFFICIAL August MSNL Countdown-till-we-get-our-FTP-moniez THREAD***

It's been awhile since I watched the video but

the message I got is that in our age we're overwhelmed with external stimulation. The combination of video games and porn is something our brain isn't used to, so it pumps out way more seratonin on a consistent basis than it has before. Problem is, life isn't like a video game so because of that, there are people who aren't as excited by real life because they're not getting the same levels of seratonin spikes that they get from video games or porn.

So it's not that fapping is bad for you, but watching porn on a consistent basis is causing those unnatural seratonin spikes leading to young males with a rising case of sexual deficiency/anxiety when it comes time to pull the trigger.

Pretty sure this is right.

Re: ***OFFICIAL August MSNL Countdown-till-we-get-our-FTP-moniez THREAD***

hey guys, does anyone here play online in either spain or italy as a foreigner?

i know locals can't play online anymore except on .es and .it sites, but if i'm on holiday can i play if my accounts are registered in a country with no restrictions?

i seem to remember being in italy after the .it sites opened and it was still possible to play on the other sites but i'm not certain.

any feedback would be great.

In Spain you cannot do this.

Re: ***OFFICIAL August MSNL Countdown-till-we-get-our-FTP-moniez THREAD***

I really wonder what neurologists would say of online poker and brain effects. I think that there is some effect for sure, at least for people who play 12+ tables every day for many hours. I know that heavy internet usage reduces the ability to focus and the general patience of people, but I dont think that applies for online poker, at least not to that extend. Would love to hear what you guys think about that.

At least I know it's true for PokerStars - from sending them emails and from asking in the regs thread. I don't know about other sites!

Yeah I just red „The Shallows – What the Internet Is Doing to Our Brains“ by Carr a week ago. Good read and his conclusion is that we started programming computers and now they are programming us. Of course not to an extreme like in matrix or so but the influence on our neurons is quite sick. Due to the high portion of information/time in the internet our neurons adapt in a way that they grasp information quicker but more superficial, making "deep reading" eventually impossible. The media adapts in showing more catching and shocking things to keep it interesting for our overkilled brains.

Again, I can only speculate on what internet poker does to brains. I think its not nearly as dramatic as normal internet usage, possibly even good for logical thinking, I dont know
