for the record I am in your camp re: this boycott thing, but I don't know enough about the issue to speak up since VPP math is hard
all i know is the old system of everyone getting similar points was obviously flawed and supported certain players 24 tabling and slowing down the games (which is gonna make recreational players mad) and by a similar logic it probably supported the existence of a lot of ratholers which hurt cashgame NLHE.

I mean this is all fine, but my issue is behind the motives for these changes. Its highly unlikely they did it for the good of the game.
More likely they are just lining their pockets from there most loyal customers since they have practically have a lock on the market since ftp went bust. Seems the new CEO has a different outlook on things.....

True, but conversely it also makes little sense for a site to something for the detriment of the game. That being said i think there is a little give and take in why stars have created the changes. Some of them will obviously benefit stars, others should (though it's yet to be really determined) should help with the health of the games. If the reps that visit the Isle of Man at the end of January are able to help convince stars to implement other changes, such as reduced rake (especially at the micros/small stakes) then this should have an extremely positive effect on the games (whilst, if calculated correctly, still allow stars to achieve part of it's likely goal to pocket some extra $'s). Tbh, I am in the same position as derek here, I am happy to take a small hit to my rb, and happy for stars to keep a little of it for themselves, so long as they reinvest the rest back in some other schemes like reducing rake. And many of the true leaching nits/40bb stack players are really really going to struggle at at 200nl and below, which will obviously reduce the numbers able to move up and infest the midstake games.
The fact of the matter is, even with these new changes and without any additional benefits, stars is still going to offer one of the most attractive platforms for people to play on.

Re: ***The OFFICIAL 2012 Stars Regulars Thread***
Hi guys, I'm looking for some final support to get sent to go talk with PokerStars about the changes to VIP/Rake.
I'm guessing most of you don't know me, because I'm primarily a full ring player. I currently play 1/2, but normally my main games are 2/4 to 5/10.
Right now, I'm the only person that's in the running that plays 100bb NLH. Also, I'm the only guy that's not going there to make demands on what Stars should do. I'm a calm, rational guy, and I will have a much more rational approach to the situation. The other candidates mostly talk about how to manipulate Stars to their benefit. I'm here because I want to talk with Stars about guiding the state of the games to a better spot. That benefits us all, although in a more indirect way.
A few days back, I was originally selected by the full ring players and PokerStars to go to these meetings. You can get an idea of how I think about the situation if you want to take a look here - http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/28...tions-1147161/
Let me know if you have any questions or concerns, and I'll be happy to get back to you.

Meh they estimate it will increase their gross by 1.5-2%. They tried to pass a reduction at the same time, 4.5% instead of 5. But people went so ape **** over it they scraped the reduction and only went with the increase. Midstakes people would have been double hit by that though, 4.5 or 5% doesn't really matter to us, and they were going to up the 5handed rake from 2-3$ which would have increased our rake paid by quite a bit. All in all they say they planned the changes to be around neutral to their bottom line, it would have made rake fairer and easier to calculate.

Re: ***The OFFICIAL 2012 Stars Regulars Thread***
Stars basically took money from the top and claimed they were giving it to the bottom when they weren't. They were just pocketing the rest of the money. This is not going to stop 24 tabling nits. It will make them have to play 20%+ more hands. So expect even more time outs, slower tables, etc.

Stars have a history of this Marketing ploy. Make a host of changes, adjust them slightly to look like there negotiating and appease some of the players concerns. It seems to work pretty successfully.
Given how the online poker market is arguably at its most unstable its been in its short history, it seems stars are looking more short-term towards maximising profits as opposed to having longevity in the industry and looking after there most loyal customers.
With regards to the state of the games i guess its hard for any1 to gauge, those at ftp argued it didn't improve (we all know how that story ends) but i guess time will tell.
