NLH $150 100K Guarantee - 9 Handed. Early in tournament, blinds are 40/80. Start w/ 5K chips. 15m blinds.

UTG - 5.6K (Villain)
UTG+1 - 5K
UTG+2 - 5.1K
UTG+3 - 6.5K
LJ - 5.6K (Hero) - AsKh
HJ - 4.7K
CO - 17K
Button - 5K
SB - 877
BB - 5.5K

UTG raises to 160, folds to Hero who raises to 480, SB shoves for 877 total, UTG flats, I flat.

OTF: K4h5h, V checks, I bet 900 into 2699, UTG shoves AI? It is early and I only have top pair and top kicker. Thoughts?

Thanks

The only hands I'm truly worried about are limited. Against an unknown, range for V includes KhQh, 99-QQ, AhQh, AA, KhJh, 67 rarely. With that limited range, how does one justify folding? Justify? Very easily, think it's correct, most difficult.

I'd re-raise preflop since AKo is not a hand I want to take to the flop vs. a live opponent but a dry side-pot.

And flop looks like an easy call, what are you scared of, AA? 44? 55? Those seem so much less likely than Kx or a flush draw.

But i'm not a great tournament player so maybe it's normal for players in this tournament to only check-raise all-in with better than TPTK.

I agree with you--wtf can I be worried about there? AA. That's about it. Everything else that beats me OTF is impossible to read.

Any reads on UTG? I mean when he flat calls the short stacks AI OOP with you still to act as the 3 bettor alarm bells would be going off in my head. That said readless / assuming he's not a nit or TAG then bet calling the flop is very standard.

No reads. And, w/ no reads, I don't see how I can ever fold OTF.

I would fold.

min-raise preflop ( UTG position), flats a re-raise pre, and then push all in on the flop, signals a set, at medium stakes tourney.

if this happens in micro tourney, I would call.He might have KQ or KJ. But. it will be so fishy to go all in with just a pair at medium stake tourney.

I would re-raise Preflop though.

We hold the Kh, which removes Kxhh combo draws. Villain can have a bunch of naked flush draws/straight draws and some worse Kxs hands. We also will have backdoor flush draws against anything better than us. Not ideal, and it's easy to make the argument for a fold since it's early in the tournament and we will eventually find better spots, since we're likely a little ahead and way behind. Reads on villain would be nice, but I prob lean towards a fold in a vacuum but I'm ok with a call. Losing almost a third of our stack hurts but we're far from crippled by folding.
