Re: MSNL'ers in San Diego
Check out Del Mar racetrack, opening day is the 22nd. Very cool atmosphere, fun gambling, drinking, girls get all dressed up for this and there is an abundance of hotness, SD girls FTW.
Make sure to eat at Market restaurant down the street from the racetrack (corner of Via De La Valle and El Camino Real), and fish tacos at Solana Beach Fish House a couple miles north on Lomas Santa Fe and Rios Ave. Check out Sushi on The Rock and George's in La Jolla, Nobu also opened in the gaslamp a year or two ago, I haven't been.
MB and PB are fine, PB can get a little rowdy for my taste, a couple miles inland like Bay Park, Mission Hills, Park West you could potentially get a lot more house for your money imo. I also wouldn't rule out north county, places like Solana Beach, Cardiff, Encinitas, I've yet to meet a single person who has said something like: "Oh I'm so tired of living in North County San Diego." where I can't say the same for PB. These areas are super nice, very mellow and have their own nightlife which is little more toned down than PB or Gaslamp, and very more surfer oriented. Fletcher cove, Swami's, Black's, are all good surf spots afaik (not a big surfer, sure I'm missing some).
Stay away from the Oceans11 $5-5 game, what fish are left in that game are mine plzkthx. Seemingly very good 10-10 NL runs there regularly, knock yourself out. Somebody figure out a 2-5 or lower homegame and I will gladly come donate to you guys.

+1 Sushi on the rock, best sushi in SD. Sad they closed #2, I liked the quaintness of it for a quick solid bite.
Also you MUST check out Extraordinary Deserts, there's one downtown and one in Mission Hills/Hillcrest (I much prefer the downtown one but both are fine). Seriously some of the best desert you will ever eat.
Also +1 to North County. Depending what your preference there is a very good chance you'll like it better. Also check out Carlsbad and even parts of San Marcos/Oceanside.
I personally cant stand PB, it's a bunch of younger people acting like they're still in college for the most part. It's the type of area that you'll either love or hate.
Also if you're interested in acupuncture my sister and brother-in-law have their own clinic in Mission Hills I can hook it up.

Re: MSNL'ers in San Diego
yeah if you are tryin to get ****y pb is the spot. i just started school down here too so i havent had that much time to check out la jolla but so far it seems like a pretty quiet area. i keep hearing parts of it are like "the bev hills of sd" but I haven't checked out those spots yet. another sick place is fashion valley which is like 10 min away from jolla.
