LC Public service announcement: The Shortstacking Spaniards
So as anyone who plays the 5/10 games on stars now knows there's this new epidemic of shortstackers who for some reason all come from Valencia. These guys are different from what you're used to combating. They buy in for 30bbs instead of 20.
I know everyone thinks they're terrible but i wouldnt be surprised if they're all making decent money because you still all play bad against them.
Now I know I was a dirty scumbag for a while but now that those days are over I feel like it's time for me to do some penance of sorts and give back. Some things you may not know about these guys:
The raise 100% of their range from the button and small blind. Yes, 100%. They raise about 65% of their range from the cutoff. This is why their stats are so inflated at 26/24 or whatever. They are not that loose in EP and MP.
You need to 3bet the **** out of them. 3bet their balls off. I guarantee you you are not 3betting enough. Why? Because you dont shove 32o
Yes, you can profitably shove 32o from the bb vs their button open.
Assume the very generous calling range of 66+, ATo+, A9s+, KJs+, KQo (remember they have to call 270 if you shove).
32o only has about 26% equity vs this calling range. However, they will fold over 85% of the time. Shoving 32o over a button raise from these guys will net you about 23 dollars on average.
Crazy huh?
You can do the math for their CO opens as well. I'm too lazy now but with people left to act behind you, I would still think you can 3bet any PP, any ace, any suited broadway, most suited kings, KJo, etc
You're also likely folding too much when they shove over your button opens. You need about 44.5% equity vs their range to call a shove. However, their range includes hands as weak as JTs. If they are shoving this wide, hands like 55 and ATo are completely callable.
Their stack sizes are designed for optimal squeezing ability. I snapped off a squeeze the other day with 44 and ran into Simonlvc's 63 suited.
Again, they're probably making money because you guys fold so much to their button opens and shoves and are oblivious because you think you're so clever 3betting them with K9s
Obviously they will tighten up once people start doing this and you will have to do so as well but this will drastically reduce the amount of pots they take down without showdown and drastically cut into their winrate

Re: LC Public service announcement: The Shortstacking Spaniards
very very nice. all of this is solid advice. these gents are extremely easy to play against.
one other thing i like to mention is that they love to make huge pot committing 3bets blind v blind. try to avoid open shoving blind v blind and induce a retarded 3bet with only raising 3xBB.
the **** they show down will amaze you. what i love about these scumbags is that they buy in for 30bbs instead of 20. it's just more fun to stack them.

I find this hard to believe. Not that it matters to me, since I don't play that high, but does anyone have a screen shot of one of them by positional stats in PT?

Re: LC Public service announcement: The Shortstacking Spaniards
nice post moonshine. i finally started realizing what you posted about 3 days ago and it is very true. it was really helpful for you to write this out for everyone so that it can become common knowledge.

Re: LC Public service announcement: The Shortstacking Spaniards
I cannot believe I just bookmarked a post with 'Shortstackers' in the title...
Also, maybe you guys could do a DCracked vid on pwning shortstackers Krantz? Obv they don't do too much to your winrate, but I'm sure with a little math they would become completely obsolete.
