Playing 5/5 in UG. Full table avg stack is $800 or 160bb. Table is relatively tight with 2 loose/bad players (MP, MP+1), 5 decent regulars (SB, BB, UTG, UTG+1, and 2 call stations(HJ, button).

Hero is UTG and calls $5 preflop with K♤J♤, the entire table calls and both blinds check. Pot=$50

Flop: A♤10◇5♤, both blinds check and I check for pot control assuming someone has an A and will raise. Checks around to HJ, he bets $30 and button calls, blinds fold, Hero/UTG calls and MP and MP+1call. Pot= $200

Turn: 4◇, Hero checks, 2 more players check and HJ bets $30 again. Button raises to $80. Hero calls $80, MP and MP+1 both fold, HJ calls. Pot=$440

River: Q◇, Hero jams $220, HJ folds immediately, and button tanks then reluctantly calls. Sees hero's cards starts to flinch and curse. I assume he had two pair or wheel type hand. Pot=$880

Should Hero have checked river in hopes of getting extra bet from HJ? This hand was unusual since there were 10 callers preflop, hence my lack of aggression/betting/raising and rather choosing to call instead. Is this type of strategy in this given situation +EV?

As played, a river shove is fine and probably the best play. You don't want to risk losing all your value with a possible check through for hopes of picking up an unlikely bet from the HJ after being raised on the turn.

FWIW, you gained max value with suboptimal play. You're getting the right odds to call on the turn (4.125-to-1) but action isn't closed with your call. With 3 players behind to act, someone could easily shove which puts you in a bad spot which you'll probably have to call off. You've essentially exposed your hand on the turn.

Preflop is a raise or fold. With 5 decent players behind, I'd lean towards a fold. If I elected to raise, it's a good board to 3 barrel.

I think preflop action is fine. Depending on your image you can limp or raise. With that many loose players and stations, limping is slightly better than raising with that particular hand from UTG imo.

Flop action is fine too. You have a lot of equity with some action players behind. A10, 55 and maybe A5 are usually the worst hands you will be up against in this scenario. Checking for a free card and calling a bet is ok.

Turn action is ok as well. You still hold 2 nut draws and plenty of equity. Youre playing it careful with stations behind you. That's standard against loose/bad and stations.

River action makes sense to me. You cant wait on HJ or BU to bet this card. Most likely its a check back. Either HJ or BU having the flush is unlikely with the action.

You would have been in a sticky situation if you had 3barrelled off the flop with half the table playing loose/station and everyone seeing the flop. I think overall you played it well enough for the situation but you also had enough equity to force some action and would be able to call some re-raises.
