Full time 2/5 NL

Haven't played for a few months and saving up some money. Any thoughts on playing full time 2/5 NL with a 6k-8k bankroll? Graduate college in a few months so going busto isn't the end of the world.

Re: Full time 2/5 NL

It depends on a ton of factors. These include, but are not limited to, your winrate, whether you're playing online or live, if you're playing 6-max or full-ring, your playing style and how risk-adverse you are. If you're asking this question, and were planning to play for instance NL500 on Stars with $6k I'd be willing to bet that you're bust within a couple of months. Bottom line: more info is needed to give proper advice.

Edit: Also, there's already a bunch of threads on this subject. Just use the search function and you'll see.

He said 2/5, not 500NL online. I dont know why everyone is always bragging about Stars. It isn't that great.

OP, I would not recommend poker as a full-time thing just getting out of college. Try to find a job, and keep poker on the side

Would be live not online. Yeah have a job lined up starting in July. Currently valet a few nights a week to make some money. Thought about quitting that and plying 25-30 hours a week for the next few months. Going back to WSOP in June for a few weeks. Debating whether to save for that or play in the mean time.

Yeah it's just annoying that some people have a boner on 2+2 for stars, and some get arrogant and cocky that they can be XX on pokerstars. It's not that impressive.

I've never played professionally, but I have played to pay for some college expenses last yr. i've played a lot of hands (350-400k from 5NL to 200NL), and for many reasons, I'll be honest don't go pro. Especially given your background.

Going on various huge downswings and BE stretches were very demoralizing. You dont seem super experienced, so imo I think you should really keep poker on the side. Also, it's not stable like with your lined up job. I dont recommend doing WSOP when one buy-in will take up a large % of your bankroll

I don't know how you got that from my post... Throughout my career I've always dodged Stars for anything but Sunday majors, especially as I grew older and started to see game selecting as more of a skill. Didn't know 2/5 was a clear giveaway as to meaning live poker (William Hill used to run such stakes online for example), but you should calm down. I've never endorsed stars, nor claimed to "be anyone" on there. If you read the forum guidelines you'll also see that nl10 - nl200 is SSNL, so perhaps you should post your rants there until you become a bit more experienced.

The reason I mentioned it was that stars has one of the toughest msnl fields available today, and at the same time they're the biggest, thus they could seem like a natural choice for someone starting out. OP would obviously be way more likely to go broke multitabling a tough field online compared to playing one soft table live on 10-12 buyins.

I didnt say you. I specifically meant somebody else, whose name I'm not explicity saying. If you browse the forums enough, you should know who i'm talking about. My bad, meant "beat XX on PS," not "be."

I dont know why, but NL generally refers to online while the blinds themselves refer to live. You almost never say 500NL and refer to live. Same for 1/2. People dont say that to refer to online

200NL online, especially fast poker, is one of the most difficult games existing. So implying that I'm not qualified to answer these types of threads is pretty absurd. I have played over 300k hands from micros to 200NL. I could beat 2/4 and up online since I'm crushing 200NL right now, but just dont have the roll.
