Folding bottom set on dry board?

Put in two, 5 hour sessions over the weekend at my local casino this weekend. 1-2 game, fairly straight forward ABC poker played by most players.

In both sessions I flopped only one set and both times they where beat by a higher flopped set. Both times on dry boards.

Is there anyway to get away from a set over set situation?

Both times I had bottom set.

SET 1

Hero: 55
Villain: 77
Flop: 57K
All the money goes in on the flop

SET 2

Hero: 33
Villain: 55
Flop: q35
All the money goes in on the flop

Both times I had roughly $200 and the action was raised pre flop to $15 with 3-4 callers. Both times I was on the button and I was a caller pre flop.

Just curious if there's anything I can do differently or is just a cooler both times?

Re: Folding bottom set on dry board?

$1/2 is small stakes.

You're calling 7,5 big blinds preflop with 55 and 33. That's your first mistake. You should look to exploit open sizes such as that by 3-betting more and calling less. Hint: 33 and 55 definitely doesn't make it into our calling range, unless we're in the BB closing the action and everyone is insane, so your average low stakes live game I suppose.

You're asking whether or not to fold third nuts against weak players who will overvalue their overpairs and TPGK, when there's already $45-60 in the pot with $185 stacks effectively. So you have a stack to pot ratio of 3-4 in a game with weak players and there's only 6 combos that beat you.

Yes, you got coolered twice. No, you can't fold any of the spots ever.

Never ever, cooler situation. Contemplating explained it very well. Also, what kind of question is that? Can I fold this ever 100bb effective lol.

sounds like you were in some pretty low spr spots and in that case, yes, you are never folding those sets. Especially considering the quality of play you can assume in a live 1/2 game
