Playing 1/3 at golden nugget lake Charles but the game has more action than the 2/5. Avg stack is roughly 700-1200.

Pre flop is straddles to six MP re raising to 25. Mp2 calls and then I call with 77 in the cutoff. Button then re raises to 85. Both mp1&2 call and I'm now pot committed.

Flop: 7s2s2h

Checks to me and I check to button who then goes all in for 230

Mp1 folds and mp2 calls

I then shove 750 effective

Mp2 tanks and eventually calls.
Button shows AA mp shows Qs9s and hits a spade on the turn but I scoop entire pot.

Question: with almost $300 in dead money in the pot is calling $85 preflight with pocket sevens a bad play?

The situation can be modeled nicely: You flop no set, you lose around $50. You flop a set, you win on average $x.

There are videos out there detailing the math on calling for set-value only.

I remember something from the Bryce on Stoxpoker from 2009 or so, these videos are now on Cardrunners, you can search there.
