I posted a hand a couple months ago in which i raised utg with AA, mp called, bb called, flop came 10 8 6 , i bet standard, and BB massively overbet jammed his stack with the nutz.

I had that hand in mind when this came up tonight................

villain is a very good player, plays 19/16/2.8 over huge sample with no obvious flaws, Not much history between us as i usually try to avoid him tbh.

i think this is a good line to use occasionally, thoughts appreciated

His leading range is strong and includes a few hands that might call, but my problem with this play is you allow him to fold his big draws. Therefore you're only getting looked up by QQ+, AK, and KQ, giving us only 75% equity even for the rare times when we do get called.

well without that much history, what do you expect him to call with? You also mention that he has no obvious flaws so I don't think he snaps off an AK type hand here.

Also how do you plan to balance your range if you plan on using this move often?

I just make a standard raise here and hope he 3bets over top instead of c/shoving.

I think its a good line to use occasionally.

Any hands that are calling your shove are also calling a smaller raise and probably stacking off before the hand is over anyway, but not every hand that calls a normal raise calls a shove, so I'd rather stick with a normal size raise to keep some of his more marginal hands in.

in his eyes, the majority of my range looks like spade draws, typically the nut spade draw, so this in turn opens up his calling range.

With that in mind, i think this is the best line to get paid off by most his range, and is the optimal line vs ak. he might even call with aq on a rainy day.

I don't like it either. I would not expect a call from AK here the majority of the time, at least not from a solid reg. Getting a call from AQ is really being optimistic. I think this play looks like just what it is, a strong hand trying to rep a nfd semibluff in order to get paid on a set.

I say charge him. If he happens to have a big draw he might shove on you here on the flop anyway. What hands are really going to just call if you RR here?

No, you're out-leveling yourself. Overbet shoves from tags are basically monster draws at the worst, and often just plain monsters hoping to look like draws, and the vast majority of players are not going to call you here without at least AK.

I know i would fold AK pretty easy here if i was villian., I dont see to many hands that you beat call you here.
Normal size raise imo, and you might get all the money from a AA, AK type a hand on a later street, which you would not do if you shove here.
