looking for a theoretical discussion on the following scenario

v has moved to my left and is now constantly 3 betting me around 25% of my opens

hero on BTN: 420 bbs
v on SB: 320 bbs
BB: 50 bbs

folds to hero 55 on button 3x
v 3b to 12x

if we flat here assume v cbets 100% of flops and double barrels some high%

No reason to open 3x on the button with a sb who is 3betting a ton and a big blind that is 50 big blinds deep. I'd minraise pre-flop here. As played, I'd probably call the 3bet, but 55 is getting close to the bottom of a calling range (being this deep helps though).

100% cbet doesn't matter at this hand so much. Obvious call IP with a pair. As said better open less so you have an easier decision later on.

open smaller on the button so you can peel the 3b. this deep im the calling 3b, even this big, with all pairs. if you assume he is cbetting 100% you are going to have to get sticky post flop and call down on some boards

Another defense against a lite 3bettor is to mix in some lite 4bets, I don't hate using 55 to do that here

55 doesn't seem like a good 4betting hand in general to me.

--When called will usually have very little equity on the flop (while occasionally having a lot).

--Doesn't have a blocker to premiums.

--It might actually be close to our being supposed to call a 5bet shove, depending on sizings and opponent's range, and if fold is good, we still created a situation where we put a bunch of money in and have to fold a pocket pair when our opponent has AK/AQ maybe 40% of the time (this is more thinking for when stacks are around 100 big blinds deep - I'm not as used to playing 320 big blinds deep).

Well part of my reasoning is that it is going to be hard to play 55 post flop unless we flop a set regardless, lots of over cards are going to come out and we will most likely end up playing a guessing game.

True we dont have blockers, but at least we have an easy game plan when called... just set mine and move on.

As to your point about calling it off, were 300 bbs deep, we can easily get away if villain 5 bets.

But the big thing here is that I expect villain to fold a majority of the time, and when he does continue we isolate ourselves vs a strong range we can get paid if we flop a set.
