can you be a winning player playing 25/8

i see some regs, that have been around 18th months, playing this style, around 20-25/8-12 and they are winners in my db.

there is around a dozen or so of them playing the same msnl games as i do, multi tabling like the other regs, and im pretty sure they are winning players

Are we too quick to dismiss this style of play as -EV, and how are these people pulling it off, especially with the games as tough as they are

for sure you can be a winner. preflop is only one street. you need to play well postflop though, and have good game selection. also even if you have those two qualities, your winrate can be improved upon by playing what's agreed to be a more optimal preflop style.

They squeak out wins because they limp tight(ish) ranges and the "cardrunners" types just keep isolating them with weak ranges and spewing at them.

Also, they play a fairly low variance style which allows them to squeak out small winrates yet still stay in the games without having to move down often when variance bites them. I have no doubt that many of those guys will not stay winners in the long run, however.

Yeah. Somebody good can play far from optimally preflop and make up for it postflop enough to be profitable. It's probably better to play less hands and make more money, though.

i think this also.

but maybe its not as big a leak as "cardrunners style" players think, after all, if they are winning, they likely have 0 training or tuiton. I also think some regs iso and donate to these players, i know have have been very guilty of this at times

Also, where do you draw the line, are we saying a 50/0 can show a profit?

Re: can you be a winning player playing 25/8

honestly any preflop style could show a profit if they were aware of image and how the meow chow tags were trying to exploit them. (ex. a tag is never going to assume a 40/14 is adjusting to ranges or anything), but clearly it isnt optimal

At MSNL 6-max with 100bb stacks? I don't think too many could, I know I wouldn't come anywhere remotely close to it. No 3-betting or blind-stealing, and getting the life squeezed out of you... ugh.

Make an interesting bet in the micros somewhere though.
