Im a fairly new NL player, played a couple home game and went to the casino to playy 2/5 the other day for the 3rd time. it was a limp pot ( 3 players)
I'm on the button & flop comes A 7 4 rainbow. I have 44 in the hole. it goes check bet and I call. $35 in the pot right now. turn comes a K still rainbow board. he bets $25 I raise to $70 he reraises to $175. as soon as he raised I thought to myself HES GOT TO HAVE THE SET oF 7, I tanked for a min or two and even though I put him on 77 I ship for 390.(first time playing with this player, seemed like a good player to me) had 400 bb prob to start the hand...
I know I'm fairly knew to the game. maybe it was a stupid play& stupid ship, I don't know.
I would like to get feedback.
would you go broke there as well in that situation?
any and all input would be greatly appreciated.

The question you should be asking yourself is "would the other guy go broke if the cards were swapped?" That matters much more than what we would do.

Set ovet set is largely an ev neutral situation, because whoever has the lower set is probably getting stacked.

The question also is whether we need to ship turn (that is, do we fold out hands we beat by shipping turn when we might GII OTR otherwise by calling, if we're last to act).

As lil has said, it's a cooler; it happens. It's a case of how we get there when it does.

You can't fold/think about folding here — the thinking must be about instead how you played it to get it in and getting the widest possible range getting it in with you, with what will oftentimes be the best hand.

Folding here would be dependent on significant reads on players who are total nits. Otherwise you're way overfolding/undervaluing this hand; it's nearly the top of your range.

Any time your hand beats bluffs and value bets, you can't fold. Villain might play 2 pair this way.

thanks for all the input guys.
I replayed the hand in the hand and I excluded all possible hands that he coulda had.
didn't have a set of kings or aces because he would have raised pre flop. he wouldn't be reraising me after I raised him on the flop with 2 pair I don't think. so pocket 7s is the only hand I put him on.
I don't know but I felt so bad after the hand. like I knew he had 777 but I called anyway. idk maybe its just me n I'm too hard on myself.
