Funky hand with A3s

Hi guys,

This is from a live game i played at a casino.

Stakes are 5/10 NL, and I'm the effective stack here with 2K stack

There's a straddle from UTG to 20 dollars

I have A3 and in UTG+1 position

Preflop:

I limp from UTG+1, HJ raises to 80, folds to me, I call.

Pot - 195

Flop: 46J

I check, villain bets 120, I raise to 320, villain calls

Turn: 8

Pot - 835

I bet 480, villain calls

River: A

Pot - 1795

I shove 1120, villain tanks and then calls.

What do you guys think about the bluff line? I thought this player was quite wide in range for c-bet so i raised him, then I thought i could triple barrel him off so I bet turn. On the river, I was value shoving with my A. Do you guys think the sizing is good for this merge play?

Is this full ring? If so, I would fold pre with just 1 guy in the hand.

Apart from that, seems fine to me. He had ace higher kicker I presume? Only hand that makes sense given how he played.

Nope he had KK and I won the pot. Actually, A higher kicker doesnt make sense at all. How can he call down with AQ or AK all the way til the river unless he has diamonds specifically? Because of that, I think the shove for value on the river was pretty good, since I rep bluffs credibly.

What do you guys think?

Fold pre both times.

Flop is fine.

Turn is spew when you don't pick up any equity.

River shove is very good though when diamonds bust.

Re: Funky hand with A3s

I do also think that I would 3 bet the flop sometimes, but I wouldnt want to do that all the time, as that would commit yourself to one pair for all the chips (2k effective- very deep) and I wouldnt want to do that 100%.

As played though, I dont think shoving the turn is very good. This is because he knows that I'm competent enough to not barrel turn with a naked flush draw like A10 diamonds since I would be blown off my hand if he shoves. In other words, I either got absolutely nothing and will easily fold to the shove (like A3 clubs), have him crushed and call, or call with at least a combo draw like AJ diamonds or 53 diamonds or 87 diamonds. In other words, if he gets called, he's at best getting called by 87 diamonds type hand that has good equity.

Plus, by shoving turn, he shuts all my pure bluff range from continuing...what do you think?

fold it both times preflop.

but as you make it to the river the shove is good.

Re: Funky hand with A3s

Calling pre-flop for $20 is ok but I don't like calling the $80 as the lone caller. OOP with bad equity. It seems he had some read and was content to let you bet into him all the way.

I don't like the bet on the turn personally in this scenario. It doesn't really achieve much and its not likely he will fold.

What was your image before the hand?
Were you shoving river no matter what card peeled?

Re: Funky hand with A3s

you are not deep enough to limp pre imo. You can raise it at a weaker game, but if players are 3betting wide range this is an easy fold.

Post flop is just total spew followed by miracle river. What are you going to do if the A doesn't come? Just abandon half your stack in the middle, or still shove?

As played it's a trivial shove and you are lucky you didn't run into a set or 2pair. He literally had the bottom of his river calling range, which he played the hand pretty well, and got completely unlucky. I suppose he could fold river, as that river is really unlucky for him as you are playing your hand like an A high flush draw.

Aren't we massively overbluffing if we raise flop with a hand like this? We have very few value hands and a decent amount of better bluffs.

Seriously? Hero's line is very credible. What from heros flop cr range is villain getting value from? Why not let hero define his hand oop if you are villain and get the same if not more value on later streets and lose less when behind. 3 betting allows hero to play perfect with 100% of his range.
