Re: Why was this thread about our podcast BY A FAN moved?
My review of Occupy Poker
I finally got around to listening to this podcast. I only made it through about ~20 minutes of the luckychewy episode so maybe it's gotten better but I definitely do not recommend it.
This thread amused me because I thought it was some decent guerrilla marketing but I think they are actually being completely serious.
I assumed "Occupy Poker" was being used facetiously because I didn't think two people who have cashed for millions of dollars in poker tournaments would be so brazen as to align themselves with a protest movement focused on income disparities.
The show starts with the NOFX song "Occupy Occupy Occupy" with lyrics of "We're not here just to bitch, we want more taxes for the rich// We're not here to attack, we just want our money back..."
A few minutes later they discuss their jet-setting lifestyle and their friends and neighbors in the Panorama Towers who now live in Europe, Mexico, Malta, and so on.
Later when discussing Facebook's co-founder Eduardo Saverin and his decision to renounce his citizenship the hosts applauded his decision to escape from a very heavy tax-burden in the United States with the logic that "the government takes enough already." Re-read those NOFX lyrics now.
Maybe they do know a lot about politics but my first impression is that their political and social views are massively uninformed.
I think this exchange sums it up pretty well.
The episode starts with either Jon or JC, I don't know whose voice is whose, saying that world is obviously going to ****. Luckychewy is asked for his opinion on this subject and since luckychewy is obviously a very intelligent guy who seems well-informed he said that, paraphrasing, some things are getting worse, but some things are getting better and that our freedoms aren't really being taken away.
Either JC or Jon replied with:
"Ya, but you still can't smoke weed. You can't play poker."
There was no irony in his tone. So apparently when JC said "we take everything seriously at Occupy Poker and we encourage our listeners to do the same" he was not actually making a joke. This means Jon likely does feel as if he's made twoplustwo a fortune.
I don't really know anything about their background so JC will probably call me racist for this but I think their views are about what you would expect from two people whose formative years were spent in the poker world. FWIW I do still play poker full time so I'm not just hating on those who are more successful than I am (luckychewy, you're the man, ldo) but I am someone who is bothered by the prevailing views of many in the poker world who are disastrously uniformed but don't know enough to know how much they don't know.
also lol tournament players

I started to, but decided to skip it when I saw the following on the web site:
"Authentic moments with the finest minds in the poker world."
Thanks for the review.

Welcome back! Can we assume that you weren't going back to relive all those "Blissful" experiences of your past?

Re: Why was this thread about our podcast BY A FAN moved?
Seeing as how all my stops in Europe/Africa were new, I wasn't reliving any previous European escapades.
You putting blissful in quotes has me curious though - why did you do that?

Sorry...LOL. It was an inside joke. I know I'm new here, but I followed all the advice and lurked for years, so I know more about each of you than you can know about me. You mentioned in a thread awhile ago about having a less than fun time in El Paso, I knew you were in the Army, ergo Fort Bliss.
I was going to do a convoluted "mind reading" thing with dust storms, tumble weeds and holding on for dear life while on top of that mountain with the tram, to have you convince Bobo that I deserved a custom undertitle, but I decided against it. Maybe next time...
Sounds like you had a fantastic trip though and again welcome back!

See, that's what worried me - while I'd say a decent number of people on here who would say they "know me" (as much as you can know another anonymous interwebs poster), I'd say a decent percentage know that I'm ex-military, but I doubt very many would know the actual name/location of my first duty station.
My first stalker!
But I wasn't offended - my lack of a quicker response was because I spent 10 hours today flying from Venice back to the US. My body thinks it's midnight and I've been awake since 5 am Venice time (11 pm EST). I may be incoherent right now. Hard to tell.
