I agree. The whole method of password resetting is just weird. Who is not to say that whoever "may" have hijacked an account didn't reset the email address as well.

This is actually something that was investigated and it does not appear that he changed anybody's email address.

They could just look for the "Two Plus Two Forum Outage" email that was sent a couple of weeks ago.

I've been replying individually to people who don't remember their email with the following:
"I'm very sorry, but without being able to verify your identity, your only option is to make a new account. If you find yourself in Las Vegas, we can take a copy of your identification and allow access at that time. We're also looking at other potential solutions, but have nothing at this time."
There's more people in this situation than I expected and will now be linking them to this thread and this post, specifically.
While there may be other ways to verify identity, the only other way to go for now is if you can verify your identity in some way to a moderator. And if that mod is willing to vouch for you, they will send me a pm.
In some cases people aren't receiving the pw reset emails. AOL users, for example. I'll verify these manually for now.
with so many people in this situation, we'd obviously like to help people verify their identities, but in these first few days of coming back there's just not enough manpower to make it happen quickly
