Scanned copy of drivers license? Anyone who's done business with me knows my name, and my email addresses should have my initials and name in 'em.

maaaaaaaaaaaaaan, you guys had years to reset your emails while you had access to your accounts, esp. if you were doing $$ transactions and your account is so important
hopefully mgmt can help you out here but it could be a big problem

Way to be helpful. We obviously expected 2p2 to have a major security breach and to never be able to access our accounts with our user name and password like we have for 8 years again.
I know when I change email addresses this is the first place I think of, because I get so many emails from here.

You were ALL instructed to change your passwords before the breach.
That would have meant fixing your email first which would have taken a minute.
I am being helpful and have offered my time to do whatever I can.

Well, there's absolutely nothing RW can do about the rules around this.
While I agree it sucks, you guys have to look at this from 2+2's perspective. They can't be giving account access to anyone who says the account is theirs. The only simple way to determine you are the account holder is the way they've done it, via the email account you registered with.
IP checks might be a possibility, but this could be a huge PITA, and won't work for everyone. Mat's said he'll try to come up with other solutions, but with all that's happened, he probably isn't able to spend a tonne of time on this within the first two hours of the forums being back up again. If you have some solid new ideas of ways we can verify you are who you say you are, we're all ears. Otherwise, you're going to have to give this a little time, unfortunately.

Can administrators view a users private messages? If so, being able to provide the details of two or three messages would enough to verify it's your account. Still has its problems tho

@ Rainbow and Bobo:
I just want to be sure about all of this. Prior to the shutdown and subsequently after, we were advised to change the password to 'any' account, if we had utilized the 'same' password.
As long as the email account used to 'originally' register for 2+2 did not have the 'same' password, we are okay, correct? So, I do not have to change my email address for 2+2, and only need to change the password for other accounts, if I used the 'same' password? Yes, or No?
I am very glad 2+2 is back, and yes, I did indeed miss it!
Thank you for your time and attention, koniki_1.

I don't believe they can without logging into your account - I know I can't. It's possible there's some way to find them in a database, but I'm not sure. Either way would likely a large PITA.

Here's the thing - you should assume a hacker has your login name, email address you registered with, and the password you used before the site was taken down. If you used that password with the same user name or email address anywhere else, you should change it.

Find your user id and under contact use the send email option
Then begins the waiting game

In this case, asking for a forum userid and sending email might be enough. Rather than making someone go through 8 possible email ids trying to guess which one was in use for 2+2, just take the 2+2 userid and send the mail to whatever email ID you have for 'em.
In my case, I'm pretty sure I know what my email address on 2+2 was, and when I provide it the software says it's sending me mail, but I never get it on AOL. And it doesn't show up in the spam folder. Perhaps AOL is blocking it somewhere upstream and refusing to play well with the new 2+2? They're sorta famous for blocking email from major sites when they get too much mail or mail which looks spammy--they've turned off entire universities and large ISP's before.

I had this same exact problem. Tried getting the reset to send me the email four times, no luck. Nothing in spam folder, inbox, nothing. I've also had a similar issue with another vbulletin forum. I created an account there, it said it sent me the verification email and I didn't get it in my inbox or spam folder. idk if it's an issue with just aol or aol and vbulletin, no idea.
In my case here, I sent Mat an email from my email address linked to this account and he reset the password for me.
Thanks Mat!
