Hello. A new feature "Likes" have been added to 2+2. When you click a like button you add your like to a post, when you click a dislike button it doesn't actually decrease the like count number but rather records your feedback which will be used for internal purposes.

This is a new feature and there is a possibility of bugs. If you've noticed any or something isn't working the way you expected, please post about it in this thread.

And as always please share your opinion. Do you like it, hate it, never gonna use it or should I start thinking about relocating to the south pole😄?

I love that you are simply doing this without the usual feature discussion drama!

It requires the new theme I suppose?

If too many people dislike this feature then we can simply add a new custom theme without Likes or we can remove them altogether. Currently, it works only on the new theme, but I'll create a separate subtheme for the old one.

Good, means I'll never see this sort of pointless feature that has not added value or improved discussion anywhere it has been used

I understand not decreasing the likes, but why not show a count of the dislikes. I would think that would be just as, if not more, important to show users (and the poster).

Yeah its good like on gipsyforum you can see who gets alot of dislikes and downvotes and its good for new people to a thread or forum to see who the people they probably dont want to talk, or listen to are

Ah, so encouraging groupthink. That usually works well.

Can you link to the threads involving community feedback on this feature before it was released? Was there a natural ground swell from the community that we wanted likes/dislikes? Or was this feature added without any consultation?

I dislike the like button. And the dislike button.

I used to flame this purchase as some baked stoner move just to stick it to the (insert subjective motive here). I'm seeing it more as a landing site and jumping off point for bigger things. So the flaming stops now

With that said- should your AI algos inflict an eating disorder here, or body dysmorphia there, no bother, they're just traffic cones in your road test of life. Maybe if you get big enough you can even inflict a suicide or two

What's important here is we emulate the biggest companies with this text based script

We should have the likes invisible and only show the dislikes to really stick it to the mental-wellbeing crowd.

It's likely harmless to implement this now with the site not really a hotbed for non-community traffic, but if the site grows and the user base does as well then this is probably not a system you want in place. It's funny too because the comments and posts that are funny or informative on here are world class; they deserve some likes. The like system just seems to always devolve a meritocracy into a marketing free-for-all. For now, 2+2 is a really lowkey forum to visit, with a niche group of actual experts in their fields talking with random joes, and poker celebrities on their smurf accounts talking positively about themselves. It's a really interesting time with a lot of interesting ppl involved. I'd vote against risking turning those people into quantifiable assets, which monetizing clicks (the end goal of any like based system) does. Ya'll are smart, leave this in place for now while you come up with a better system. Alternate poker celebs as the like/dislike buttons every month. Make it fun. The site doesn't need any generic stuff to be profitable, it's literally one of the last few forums on the internet where the pros are actually interacting with the amateurs on a regular basis. There's always some juicy gossip and someone from the site was always there, and there's literally decades of brilliant strategy advise being dropped all day. We're all so starved to make $ from the game uphill against crazy rake, bots, and ppl taking the game so super seriously that it's become a grind. 2+2 is a place for fans of the game though, and I think being a bit different and staying oldschool would go a long way. Or leave it how it is, idk I'm just a guy who ate a bunch of edibles and IS GETTING FIRED UP ABOUT VARIOUS THINGS ON THE INTERNET. Also while we're suggestion boxing you should have The Marf on ur podcast.

Hate it, I think it gives psychological negative reinforcement to post more when you get zero likes, and kills the forum so it's even more dead, UNLESS I can click to see a list of all my likes (to use as bookmarks) and lists of other people's likes (to find good posts), similar to Twitter, then it's useful.

It's really nice that you care about trying to improve the site. To grow the site maybe make share buttons, make it fun by encouraging people to post more, eliminate negative posters and bad mods, etc. Maybe have poker celebrity AMA threads? And real links to old threads by poker celebrities? I can't ever make it show more than ten pages of someone's past posts so I have never been able to read Dwan's old posts, etc. You own that content and it's gold and no one gets to see it.

Also I would really like a feature where you can add posters to a favorites group and then their posts are highlighted in your view, or a brightly colored mark is by their name (similar to the "who is online" indicator), so you can quickly scan threads and just read your favorites, and also be able to click a list of your favorites so you can click to see their post history easily. Honestly the only reason I read this site is because of about ten good posters.

i wish you could subscribe to a forum, i often miss out on time sensitive things like staking and POG stuff because they don't show up in the feed unless you seek them out specifically

Yep, that's the idea. It will be added in the future.

Everything that you've described here is on point and I have a similar opinion. Ask me anything with celebs is one of the most entertaining formats.

I think we'll add it within a few days. Don't quote me on this one, but I'll try to add it fast.

Terrible idea. At least for strategy/theory forums.

There's nothing worse than some subliminal group high-five in the back of your mind when trying to evaluate good poker advice. It just inflates egos and makes it harder to disagree with 'mega liked' contributions. The opposite of what you want in critical thinking environments.

Likes work on Reddit and Twitter for different reasons. In every other single use case they are an abomination on free thought, designed to infantalise communication, and make everyone look like idiots.

It will probably come with ups and downs. It's much better than a +1 to show that you agree with something, but OTOH it could reduce thoughtful discussion.

I know it's been the most requested, and most resisted, feature by posters for many years. I doubt it will make as much difference one way or the other as the ardent partisans on either side think it will.

This is a poor decision to introduce both likes and dislikes at the same time. The implications of both features are very different. There is a reason even apps like FB didn't have dislike for a very long time.
