Wow this really sucks. I made this gimmick back in the day from killer_kill. Guess I'm stuck with this one for now.

For some reason when I follwed the instructions to reset my password to my email address, it told me my username is "New York." I followed the instructions and logged in that way, but this is jman220. Assistance is much appreciated.

I seem to have been mistaken about which email was attached to the Tapirboy account. I think these two were reasonably well-established to be the same person long ago; I'd link to threads but archiveserver seems to still be down. Hopefully somebody here can vouch for me. Ideally I'd like the email account on that one reset to the email account on this one.

Edit: realized that doesn't make any sense, I wouldn't be able to reactivate it that way.

This is only accurate in the sense of wanting your account back immediately. One way or another, whether it be through a moderator, or me personally, we'll do our best to get people matched up with their original accounts. Unfortunately, that will take time.

All we require to register is an email. We collect no other information that can be used to verify your identity. That means an id without a person and his face are useless. The reason i would accept an id from someone i meet in person and hold a copy of that id is so i could turn that information over to the police in the event they committed a crime with the account they claimed.

No, that's possible (I guess) didn't think of that.

To those who think I'm a gimmick. Give me a break. Look at my post count.

There are more reasons than wanting a gimmick account to have multiple accounts.

I'd like my to have my account that was created in 2004 and has over 1100 posts - that's the only account I want.

I can name the email my account was most likely registered to, I just can no longer access it. Plus my IP's would match from this account and my main of course.

this is obviously fine and i'm sure you guys have a ton on your hands right now. i had been under the impression that if you didn't know a mod you'd be SOL forever.

I'm not sure what you're getting at here, but I believe Mat is saying that if there is a mod who can confirm that you are who you say you are, he should be able to help you. So contacting a mod and saying "Hi, I'm XYZ, can you vouch for me" isn't going to work. But if there's a mod that knows you, or knows people who know you, etc., that's who you should be reaching out to.

Pretty sure we need to assume that the entire database was compromised, so that wouldn't be any more secure, no.

Sure are quite a few posters long on criticisms and short on workable solutions.

I know it sucks, but patience is the key right now.
