It's an admin option. We can't change it ourselves.

This needs to be increased ASAP.

I honestly don't mind if I can't change them, but they should increase the number. Doubling the default amount would work for me.

This may have been answered somewhere but I haven't seen it: is there any way to link to a specific post without changing your view of the forums

Yes, if you know the post number this is easy to do. Using this code:

[post]1300188[/post]

will produce this link:

https://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/showthread.php?p=1300188

which goes directly to that post.

The only question is how to get the post number. One way to do that is quote the post, copy the post number from the quoted post (you need to be out of WYSIWYG mode, so toggle the icon in the upper right of your enhanced editor). Then cancel and get back to where you want to make this link.

With vB, isn't there a way we can control censorship ourselves? An option you can set for us in the vB options section of the Admin CP that will let us decide if we want censorship turned on or off? I would rather see swear words than asterisks, myself, and I think there's a way you can allow everyone on the forum to make this decision for himself.

Another suggestion I have is that you set the default number of threads displayed per page in a forum to something higher than it is, so that it mirrors the old feel of the site better. Something in the neighborhood of 50 threads per page would be more appropriate than the setting you have now (the default, I presume), given the traffic level on the forum. This may also be something you can allow people to set for themselves in their user control panels options section, but I'm not sure.

Agreed on the threads viewable per page thing. However, maybe this will at least encourage people to stop making masses of stupid OPs (or the mods to crack down on it a bit).

Also, I don't get how listing 90 posts per page in a thread is not considered an attack vector while listing 90 threads per page apparently is. Posts generally being larger than thread titles?

How do we quote a quote? This "multi-quote" thing doesn't seem to do anything at all.

And QFT - the number of threads per page needs to be either a lot more or a user option. The current number is just silly for a forum that gets this much traffic.

You mean like Sklansky and his six threads per topic in NVG? Eh, I think it's always easier to adjust the settings than to ask the mods to work more or to ask the users to be smarter.

Wouldn't this be a lot easier if the post # was in the same info bar that the time, date and intra-thread post # was listed? There's plenty of space there.. no idea if this is an option or not on the admin end..

edit: haha - figured out what multi-quote does... interesting feature, but I'd still like to be able to quote a quote without copying and pasting manually..

You have to quote a quote by hand, by copying and pasting. Imbedded quotes are not available via the vB defaults. The multi-quote allows you to quote multiple messages and reply to them all in one post. To do it, you just hit the + for each post you want to quote, and the Quote button for the last post. Then they will all be waiting for you to respond in one post.

I, for one, like the change away from quoting quotes. I think that just leads to an enormous amount of spam. This will probably cut down on the "me too" type posts.

That has nothing to do with an attack.

The possible attack vector is the reason why there is no "show all" option next to the paginated links for a certain thread.

The ostensible reason for the limit on number of threads per page is for performance.

StevieG, TY for the link to "endless pages" in one of the other threads here

I just posted a quick howto - please correct if it is wrong, or you have any other ideas - I also found a little script to "jump to 1st unread", figured that was worth posting

Fo real, yo. There's a ton o' wasted space there anyway. If the post # was there, the post tags would be super nice.

Oh if you hover over the in-thread post number in the upper right, you see the global post number in the status bar. Good enough. Post tags will be very nice for quoting in flat mode.

Yes, this is a really important question for me too.

Love the overall appearance.

The number of threads per page is not user controllable. That global setting might change, though, with all the negative feedback.

Right click on the post count in the upper right of every post and choose properties. Copy and paste the post number (i.e. 1301515)

I'm going to miss "show all" in long threads. Other than that, looks good.

Add one more to the list who wants to see more threads per page.

An increase would indeed be nice.
