Is there some spamware in the 2p2 forum software? Is there some spamware in the 2p2 forum software?

Every once in a while I'm browsing a thread in NVG, and even happened in this forum just now, I'll click somewhere in the thread body just to get that to be the active window so I can scroll down and it will be as if I clicked a link and a page will open in a new tab. The window that opens is one of those "Windows Support" scam sites.

Checked my Computer for viruses/spyware using windows defender and then spybot and nothing came up.

Anyone else seeing this? Only happening on 2p2.

Never happened to me. Which browser are you using? You could try checking if it also happens with another browser

Windows defender and spybot? What is this, 2003?

Get some actual protection because it sounds like you're infected

I'm using google chrome on win10. Haven't tried other browsers yet. It doesn't happen all the time but it happens a couple of times a day if I'm on 2p2.

Installed malwarebytes and it identified a chrome extension that was a PUP . Odd because that extension had thousand of good re views with no mention of adware.

Even odder that it never happened on any other site besides 2p2. Will update if I see it happen again if I see it happen again now that I removed the extension.

Don't forget to get some actual antivirus like bit defender!

And if you're feeling really cheeky, get Opera, use their free VPN, and disable JavaScript on everything except a few sites you know and trust! Ads can only be malicious if you have JavaScript enabled.

I thought windows defender was adequate? but yeah that can change quite quickly. I only have that running because its build in, no popups for pro version...low resources and I did do a bit of research then..it wasnt in 2003 and the reviews werent negative. there are probably programs with better detection but If you really need that you might want to think about your behavior on the internet. thats no1 to keep a clean system anyway.

I do have noscript running also and sometimes use sandboxie if im not 100% sure

This just happened to me today. Clicked in a non-clickable section so I could drag the side bar and I got one of those fake Comcast survey pop-ups.

I use Avast firewall and antivirus suite (paid versions) but maybe that sucks now too?

Incorrect. Your behavior on the Internet can have no bearing on getting malware from the Internet. That is, unless you think sites like Forbes are "high risk".

This **** happens to me once in awhile. In fact, it keeps happening on the last page of the NHL playoffs thread (50 ppp).

I'm getting forum pages randomly changing to a Cox survey. MBAM says my system is clean.

Happens only when I'm browsing 2+2.

Windows 10, Chrome 57.

It has happened to me on Windows 10 using chrome as well. It's unfortunate.

The Opera + free VPN sounds good. What kind of protection does the VPN offer?

VPN encrypts your connection from your computer to the VPN end point. Great if you want to keep your ISP from snooping on you. In this case, I wouldn't be surprised to learn that it's the ISP injecting ads into traffic thanks to 2p2 refusing to use stuff like ssl. Check out this forums score on securityheaders.io and prepare to be horrified.

Word. If you connect to their free Canadian vpn, for example, there are stricter privacy laws than you would otherwise enjoy in the US. Also doesn't leech IPv6 data, so that's good.

Seems to happen in the NHL threads more than any other thread. I'd say it's someone's avatar, but those just get uploaded directly to 2+2, so I can't imagine that could even cause such a thing.

I doubt it's anyone's ISP. Probably some ad on the ad network 2+2 uses. I'm more interested if anyone is using something like adbl0ck (unfortunately I cannot). Regardless, this should be looked into.

Please provide a screenshot in context. I have tried to get something to pop up for me and have been unsuccessful.

Yes, they certainly haven't already been doing this for years.

2+2 is literally the only site this happens on that I wouldn't expect it to. If I were to go some questionable website like a torrent site or something, I'd expect to see these types of ads.

The fact that numerous people have had this happen probably means it isn't anyone's ISP. I'm not getting ISP related ads, either. It's one of those spam ads like "your computer has been infected" or "call Microsoft immediately about whatever".

I'm 99.9% certain it has to do with 2+2's ad network especially given the fact that there have been incidents in the past with other issues. I haven't seen anything for days, and no one has posted about it happening in awhile. I'm guessing whatever infected ad was in the network was removed, but I'll be sure to post a screenshot if it happens again.

But yes, keep saying it's an ISP when there is a history of this happening to big websites. https://arstechnica.com/security/201...to-ransomware/

I've been getting this for weeks as well, only at 2p2. Chrome + Windows 7 because I fought the good fight and didn't let them auto 'upgrade' me to 10.

Usually the subscriptions page that does it for me, but had it happen on other threads/pages on 2p2 as well. Been happening for maybe a month+? Not sure, not good with time anymore.

I said it was a possibility. It obviously could be malvertising too, which is why anyone not running software in 2017 is insane.

That's already pretty dangerous half knowledge.

Don't spread that.
