We have a banned poster (trainwreckog) in the NBA threads in Sporting Events who's probably approaching one hundred gimmick accounts (seriously). He constantly spams the same topics, over and over, and over again. Now, the mods are usually pretty quick in deleting his new accounts/posts, but can we seriously not do better than this, i.e. IP ban him? I've asked numerous times while reporting his new posts/accounts, but for whatever reason, it's not yet been done. Fwiw, he's been perma-banned from other NBA related forums, so I'd expect we could do the same, but I might be wrong.

Don't IP bans prevent all IPs of a certain area from signing up?

You're more likely to get a response to a PM than a question within a post report. Also, dynamic IPs mean what you're requesting isn't always possible.

I suspect this might be the case considering one of his gimmicks was something like lol2+2tech. Just insane that one person could potentially make an entire forum unreadable if he was dedicated enough.

It can be done but sustaining something like that typically requires the person to be mentally deranged in his determination to keep it up.

It's pretty hard to appreciate given he has 75+ account's worth of posts deleted, but you could search through his original account for Jordan or Isiah if you'd like. Basically, he'd be a somewhat okay (if often incorrect) poster if he every single time someone says something positive about LeBron/CP3/CurrentNBA, he didn't go on multiple rants on how superior he thinks Jordan/Isiah/80s90sBasketball were (his favorite topic being Michael Jeffrey Jordan). He tries to steer every single conversation to these same topics, on every NBA forum he's on. It's truly a sickness.

IP bans only work on people with absolutely 0 tech skills. Even if you have no know how, there's a variety of IP masking softwares out there that are simple to use.

For instance there's a guy that's been spamming threads in OOT for like the better part of a year now. He must be up to 100+ accounts and he doesn't seem particularly bright so it just can't be that hard.

Usually I can spot a previously banned poster just from their posting style and reg date. Almost no one hops into a place like OOT after being reg'd for a month.

Anyway theres no way to stop anyone that wants to come back.
