Suggest adoption of a version of these mod rules Suggest adoption of a version of these mod rules

I can imagine a useful political forum on here that followed a version of the mod rules from this site.

https://www.reddit.com/r/changemyview/

Explain the reasoning behind your view, not just what that view is (500+ characters required).

No meta posts.

Only post if you are willing to have a conversation with those who reply to you.

Direct responses to a post must challenge at least one aspect of OP’s stated view (however minor), or ask a clarifying question.

Don't be rude or hostile to other users.

Refrain from accusing OP or anyone else of being unwilling to change their view.

No low effort comments.

I would add,

Cite sources to back up factual claims.

Before someone posts that I hardly set an example of following these rules right now I wholeheartedly agree which is why we need them. I fall victim to the screaming mob mentality too often.

They're good rules but the hostility to a politics forum where you cant be rude or hostile to posters is enormous here. It's also much like what I tried to do (positive engagement etc) to do initially but it's goes totally against the politics culture here on 2+2.

You would have my full support (don't know if that's a good thing or not)

I'm flexible enough to try those and fail a bunch getting it correct.

We try one thread with these rules, or some version of them. If it fails not much lost. If it works it seems to have a pretty huge upside.

I would love to try something like this out in P main. Maybe just a thread to see how it goes, or maybe repurpose economics to something useful.

I'd also like to see a lc personal attack thread. In my memory, PU was best when there was a lot of talking crap in the main LC thread (other than x, who are the bad posters) and then mostly on-topic posting in other threads. A convenient place to blow off steam could help channel personal attacks into an appropriate and convenient place, or it could encourage people to make more personal attacks elsewhere.

The point is, I like the idea of trying new things. See how it plays out and adjust accordingly.

And nuke economics. Wtf even is that place?

Sure, if Mat will approve it.

Suggestions for 1st topic? (safe spaces )

In my opinion a post length standard is really important. It incentivizes thoughtful discussion while disincentivizing retort and one liners.
08-15-2017 , 01:00 AM
That will be interesting to see.

Even though we haven't started, it's already making me think about explaining why I think it would be interesting. It's going to stop a lot of quick and easy ill thought out posts.

(Is there a character count somewhere?)

Yeah, it's opposite the direction of reductive messaging. But at the same time it's based on a presupposition that a better idea is of a certain length. So it does have a down side.

Clovis,

I guess the issue is that the rules are somewhat arbitrary and selectively enforced, so calling for new rules is pointless. Like, some of the rules you want are already theoretically in the existing rules.

Granted this would take much heavier modding than is the current standard. I think they work hard as mods over in the reddit forum but the reward is real debate and even some changes minds.

We've done things like this in the past, I think they were called High Content threads. If you want to start a High Content thread, designating it as such, posting your rules, etc., I'm fine with it, as long as it doesn't turn into a total pain in my ass.

And who cares if it does? It is your job. Get over it. I reckon I can find countless members on here that are willing to do it if you can't.

This pretty much. Clovis8 posted s high content thread that was composed of a high content of rules. Right now three posts, one from Clovis and two from Mods warning posters not to troll the thread. Some troll posts were deleted with warnings not to troll. My suggestion would be for Clovis to actually set an example by making a high content post about a political topic.

For sure - pretty clear from posts on an Internet forum that he couldn't possibly be trusted to be responsible for other people. I mean, he exiled you for just engaging in a discussion about Mel Brooks!!!1!1!1!

Spoiler:
A discussion with yourself, apparently.

Did you find pvn's post? Why would I lie about that?

Why is mr wookies exile case about me the kind you'd expect from teenaged trolls with no manners or consideration for others?

I already told you the results of my search. And I never suggested you lied; I assume you were mistaken.
