When I go back and read old threads the further back I go the larger the width of the posts become. Is this how all threads work? Is there a solution to keep page width the same for all threads?

Thanks.

You're talking about the archives, right? That you want the posts in-line instead of nested?

no, the post width changes as I go back in a long thread.

for instance http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/28.../index256.html

after clicking that link go to the final page and see if the widths are different for you too.

for me, this thread is about 15 letters wider on old posts. So instead of the posts fitting on my screen, like all 2016 posts do, I miss some of the words because they do not fit for some odd reason.

Page width is the same on the page you linked to, the first page, and the last page:

damn. thanks for checking. I am 100% sure my pages are not like that. So is my computer screwing up? Is 2+2 screwing up for only me? Is there anything you can think of that could be causing this? Or anyway to fix this?

Thanks for your help!

standard answer is try clearing your 2p2 cookies and cache.

The reason for it is because of the number of pages offered in links at the top of the posts. For example, you are offered, among others, the 5 previous pages and the 5 future pages when reading a page in the middle of the thread. Obviously, you aren't offered future pages when on the last page, so that has the effect of reducing the overall page width by at least 5*3=15 letters.

I can't find a simple fix, but there is probably a software command one.

Edit: Ah. From gregorio's post, the size of your font also affects the page width. You could make yours smaller to give you a quick-fix. (Press Ctrl and use your mouse's scroll thingy.)

step # 1 in the Bovada playbook to fix every problem that a user ever had, lol

Mike, you are correct, it is the length of the "page number links" on the top and the bottom that are affecting the width. On the last page and the first page that list is short, you only see the future pages links or you only see the previous pages links. For every page in the middle that list is very long, seeing both the previous and future pages links.

Thanks for solving my problem, and yes, changing the zoom works too.

You guys are awesome (I bet you hear that every hour from the positive and intelligent forum frequenters that we find ourselves surrounded by )
