NVG are fortunate to have a mod like SGT RJ, who puts a lot of effort into the grown-up parts of the role but also gets involved in the fun community aspect of the forum. I think she'd make an excellent social care worker.

One thing about deleted posts like this:

If a person is willing to identify themselves then there is a much stronger argument for allowing them to stay up as the subject of the posts will know who they can go after for any damages.

Lets put it this way, my guess is that RJ's share of the deleted/edited posts with the other mods in NVG is more than 50%. In a forum with 13 mods this is borderline tyrannical.

Another example was today on the Erick Lindgren thread. A new poster involved in the Las Vegas poker scene came out with some information about Lindgren, Negreanu and Layne flack amongst other things. The person wished to remain anonymous because they probably see these people all the time and don't want to end up getting into trouble. SGT RJ went and deleted the posts and started handing out infractions to people. As you can see, people weren't happy and I personally had a post deleted too.

It always seems that it's SGT RJ making hasty decisions and chirping in as if she has some profound wisdom in threads. Other mods seem to let people actually discuss things on forums and see if there's any truth rather than locking a thread before anyone even responds.

The truth is she gained the mod title because she wrote some cliff notes in the Girah scandal summarising RangeyMcTriplmerge who got very little acknowledgement for his research/work. Going through her content, she made threads in BBV4L regarding enjoying anal sex and other very low content threads.

Now as this is in the right section, I hope it's allowed to stay. I personally feel she is too heavy handed and either needs to get in line with the other moderators and let people discuss things. If she can't do that, then the only option is to remove her privileges as she's damaging the forum currently. I have made a poll and it's anonymous so people don't have to fear being punished for voicing an opinion.

Were you infracted in the last 72 hours? Were you infracted by her in the last 72 hours?

Modding NVG is hard. People complain when you do stuff. People complain when you make really obvious decisions and when you make difficult judgement calls. The vast majority of the complaints tend to be very personal and seem to assume that modding NVG is somehow this incredible power that allows mods to further their various nefarious goals. Usually the word Nazi gets thrown in at some point.

This is all understandable, because it's very dehumanizing and insulting to have a post of your deleted. But, the fact that the complaints are so ubiquitous, so consistently similar, and typically so irrational makes it very hard to take any complaints seriously.

Also, modding NVG very very quickly leads to some very sad interactions with people who have psychological problems of varying degrees of severity. That's extremely depressing.

That's why I mostly don't do stuff as a mod. It's cool that RJ does stuff anyway. She probably does stuff slightly differently than I personally think would be optimal, but NVG's still unquestionably way better off with her than without her. And, her life is almost certainly way worse off modding NVG than not modding NVG. So people sort of owe her some thanks.

On a positive note, I think that in general NVG would be a bit better off if mods pre-empted more stuff. Something to the effect of "If this tangent continues, I will start deleting posts, so please take your discussion to another thread" seems to work pretty damn well in practice. Obviously, that's not always practical, but it's something for mods to consider.
