TBH, I didn't really look at the forum that closely, due partly to the way you put your question and where you posted it. Now that I look again, I see that your post there is the only one in the last 3 weeks. Interesting.

Probably a topic for discussion there, though, or maybe in its own thread here. But it also seems like something that would be brought up by someone more directly interested/involved in that forum.

The purpose of the forum was to give women a forum to discuss the issues of being a woman poker player in a world that is young male centric. It was clear from the women petitioning for the forum that the last thing they wanted was the forum to develop into one where threads like this existed.

http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/29...stars-1513431/

Male posters are modded heavily. Female posters are modded much like Mat mods B&M now. Recent threads that were locked/deleted started by males include deep subjects like, "girls, show us your picture" and "which kitchen appliances do you like."

I have a distinct minority position within the mod community in that I think smaller forums need active mods to get them started and sustained. I accept Mat disagrees. However, newer forums require content to grow. I believe that a small group has to provide that content at the start to attract others. JMurder3 and I are genetically disqualified to provide that content in TWSS. Not enough others stepped in to provide content. So it has become a dormant forum.

As for Plaaynde's direct question, the answer is that locked threads stay on the front page of a dormant forum longer. I lock many more threads in LLSNL. In a busier forum, they tend to drop off the front page in a day or two.

Venice, do you think there's a case to be made that the witty, but possibly obtuse, forum title doesn't help new posters find it?

How it started: forumserver.twoplustwo.com/55/about-forums/female-poker-players-section-2p2-982016/

Remember there was some speculation about the forum name. Think I'm always involved in those discussions, for some obscure reason

Happy to discuss this over a free meal
So did this help you win the POG game?

If I remember correctly, Mat decided on it. I had no input on the final selection. If the name plays any role in the dormancy, it is quite minor. The forum in particular has been mentioned in multiple articles and Pokerstars was once active in it.

i mean it. whatever that means.

it's worth a listen. it's just another pov song about confusion. but i think it's a good one. as a goodbye song, perhaps.

It may be goodbye. I think it's a smart idea though to let the TWSS forum continue to be up. Otherwise there may from time to time come posts like: Why is there not a forum for poker playing females, and their special situation? And as the polite words used itt: it's only dormant, not finally dead.

Poker Headlines is another forum which defends it's position even if the traffic is minimal. It's the answer to every potential post: Why is there not a high content news forum on 2+2?

You have a really interesting way of putting things. Like riddles.

I like Leonard Cohen, but his lyrics can be a little cryptic.

Out of respect for this thread I didn't post http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/55/about-forums/atf-chatroom-o-t-chat-1494/index189.html#post46446110 here.

This is a Moderation Discussion Thread ffs.

But thanks for the support in difficult times.

There's a saying in organization theory in reference to policies and standards that says:

"Your standards are what you allow to occur around you".

For example, you can have a policy statement that says everyone has to be at work at 9am,but if you allow people to stroll in until 10am without any consequences, then your real standard is 10am, and the policy letter is meaningless. Same thing if you have a policy that says no sexual harrassment, but then allow all sorts of inappropriately sexual comments to be made in the office without disicpline.

So there's no point in spending a bunch of time on a list of mod standards. The real mod standards are whatever Mat decides to allow to occur on the site. So by definition, any mod behavior that Mat doesn't feel is worth correcting, is meeting his standards.

If any user doesn't like the way a mod is treating them, then they can complain to Mat. So there is no need for a list of mod standards. If you don't like something, complain. You don't need to cite a paragraph and line number from a Mod SOP as the reason for a complaint. Just say what you don't like. Then Mat will decide if it meets his standard or not. The production of a document will not change anything. Standards are what you allow to occur, not what you put on paper.

As to the name of the Women's forum, it seems to me that since it was determined that we needed to change the name of B&M because some people may not know what that meant, then it is probably best to change their name as well, as it's likely that way more people don't know what That's What She Said refers to than to what Brick and Mortar referred to.

I think the main problem that user wanted to tackle was managing the users expectation wrt what would and wouldn't be allowed. Now I haven't walked into the more obscure fora but I feel like the expectations are being managed quite well. Just don't do stupid ****, listen to the mods, if you have a beef, complain to the users who you should complain to, if your case is rejected take it to ATF and if nothing changes then that's how its going to be.

Great idea, but it may be trying to resuscitate an already dead patient.
