Thank you very much, citanul, for the sticky, above.

I am certain a few ATFers will want to chat about it for a while, so here's the place to do it.

unless things have changed with the new software, you can't login if you're banned, thus you can't PM the mods. should probably spell out that it's ok to create a new account to PM mods/admins but DONT POST.

Don't make a post in ATF complaining about your ban or about the moderator who banned you for being unfair.
That loud sucking sound you hear is all the joy being slowly sucked out of ATF....

This is also in direct conflict with the OOT sticky:

About the Forums. Any issues relating to forum rules, moderation, locks, bans, etc. Do not post about these in OOT, you will get banned.

That would make Catch 22 redundant.

I have some suggestions for the mods' side of things:

-Please give us a reason when we are banned
-Tell us who did the banning

Then the users can actually follow what you outlined in that thread. I've been banned a couple times without knowing who did it or why. Makes it hard to contact the appropriate mod.

Also, if you don't want users making new accounts and ATF threads, the mods really need to start reply to people when they ask questions. The rules you gave only work if the mods do their part too.

Don't worry. Iron81 is going on vacation, so ATF should get its fill of politics forum threads soon to take up the slack.

over/under on # of days b/f a banned poster ignores the sticky and starts an atf thread immediately after being banned?

Its been a while since ive been banned, but if the mods ban like they delete threads, then the banned person very likely got no reason for his banning, or was told who did it. Also if the mods respond to PMs like they typically due, it will be a week (if ever) before the user ever even finds out what forum or what mod banned him.

The ATF forum should be where you go to get some answers. I know its everyones favorite little playground and you dont want it cluttered up with threads that are actually about the forums, but there should be an outlet for people to get some answers and this should be the place for that.

When I get banned again next time, im making a thread in here asking "who what when where why", damned if it says I shouldnt in the sticky or not.

If thats not acceptable, then the policy should be that whenever someone gets banned, the mod who did it has to PM them and explain why. (which also should be the same policy anytime a thread gets deleted)

let users access their pm's when they get banned. that was the biggest problem for me when i was banned like 8 or so months ago. i had to beg for a mod to unban me for a few minutes to pull a pm that was important.

fwiw, there's now a "reason" box we get to type in a message to the user for why we are banning or even temp banning them. from what i've seen the mods have been pretty good about explaining why (not who, necessarily, though i don't know if every ban should have a who attached) the ban is happening.

also, i don't think that as much explaination for deleting or locking of posts is needed as there should be for bans.

edd,

a problem with this is that there are plenty of people who get banned for reasons where we wouldn't like them to continue to have PM ability (such as PM spam). however, i agree that this is important.

one idea is to have 2 groups of permabanned posters, one that can PM another that cannot. (or one that cannot PM at all and one that can only PM mods or admins?)

thoughts?

It's hard to be too sympathetic to this, because 1- I think storing important information in PMs is silly but more importantly 2- if you do have important info tied to your 2p2 account, it's not hard to follow the rules and not lose access to that account.

Does anyone else find it a bit quizzical that we even need a "what to do if you've been banned" thread?

In my opinion, bans should be reserved for spammers, trolls and people whose sole purpose is to make other's enjoyment on the site miserable. When you ban these people, they know why they've been banned, they don't need an explanation.

The very idea that when a user is banned their undertitle is changed to "banned" is a bit unsettling to me. It would appear that some mods are more concerned with showing they have "power" instead of actually doing what mods should be doing -- making the boards as enjoyable as possible for the most amount of people. (Hint: these "people" also happen to be THE CUSTOMERS)

That being said, I like the sticky. Also agree mods should give a reason for bans, especially since they now have a box in which to do so.

If that were the case, you'd think they would change the undertitle to "banned by <insert mod name here>"

dids ive never circumvented a ban, ever, even if i didnt agree with it. im sure there are many people who have private real life info that they had pm'd to them. it was a phone number i had pm'd to me and i didnt remember to input it into my cell phone. dont be so quick to judge me on this.

EDD,

Dids can't begin to fathom why someone would do something different from him, and has no intention of ever learning why they would do that.
