That includes the past 12 FULL years of average oil price.

Most people interpret 'over 12 years' as being an increase from the start of a 12 year period to the end of it, as the implication is that the increase has taken 12 years. So it would be correct usage for a 1 Jan 2002 - 31 Dec 2013 increase but not for an average 2002 to average 2013 increase, which is what you presented.

Are you really so wrapped up in this "peak oil" business that you believe what you just said, or just so worried that having to concede one example of a derail will hurt your "case" too much?

I've never read any of your peak oil posts before this thread, but let me give you a tip - just because you can find a tie between a topic and the subject of a thread doesn't mean you need to post about the topic anywhere you can find such a tie.

There are times when something a little off-topic but not completely irrelevant will be welcomed, and times it will not. It seems like you have a hard time picking those spots. Also, once someone's got a reputation for ranting about a particular topic, it becomes near-impossible for them to post about that in other threads without it becoming a derail.

He probably made that thread because someone made a thread in the econ forum (which he can't post in) calling him out since oil prices have fallen. It seems perfectly acceptable to me for him to start that thread to defend himself.

I think he should be allowed to post in politics. Peak oil is something that interests me and I've learned a lot about it because of Jigs. It turns out that I disagree with him and therefore I've learned the most from people arguing with him but still, if it weren't for Jig's passion the debate wouldn't have been so vigorous and I wouldn't have learned as much about the issue.

I don't like the idea of silencing fringe ideas. I think it's better to have the discussion and let people battle it out. Truth will rise to the top eventually IMO.
