I can't be certain, but evidence I've seen ITT points toward no. That's not to say there isn't magic that could be worked in the background to fix it.

I think you've already posted it.

What's going to happen is that newer users will have their PM capabilities significantly reduced to a max of 50-100 (haven't decided just yet) stored messages and will only be able to send to one user at a time. Regular members will get an increase to 1000 stored messages and retain their other limit.

The requirements for reaching the increase will not be listed, but they should be fair to both legitimate new members and current regulars.

Any thoughts on this before I flip the switch? The only thing I'm still struggling a bit with is the best way to inform new members about the limit so people will understand that's not how things will always be for them.
I dont think the current plan is working to good. Perhaps you do your idea bolded and only allow them to send a PM every X Hour(s). That should cut down or spam. Or set it to X PMs per day new users can send.

Or you could have monitored PMs for new users. A new user sends a PM and then it sits in 2+2 Cyberspace until a mod reads it and Okays it to be sent. A monitored not so Private, private message is better than none at all.

I think the first idea is better.

The more interesting question seems to be... When this change was implemented, were all the PMs these low post counters had in their PM box deleted, or will they reappear after they have successfully completed the criteria to have PMs activated?
I know mayo was demodded as a joke and had >the maximum in his in-box for a non mod once. They didn't dissapear.

Re: PM changes

If people want to send pms and can't, Ryan is on holiday until Monday, so be patient and this will all be fixed then.

Re: PM changes

I am new to this site and it's really a bit weird that I can't write pm's. At least it should explained in the FAQ. I took some time until I found this and this is really a long thread. Few words explaining for newbies would be great.

Re: PM changes

Pretty sure you did get a notice telling you this when you signed up.

Oh, I guess you get it when you try to send a PM. So why do you need it in the FAQ if the explanation pops up when you try to send a PM.

Re: PM changes

Cause I can't find it in the menue. There is nothing with PM's. Maybe i didn't see it when i registered. But after that there is no hint, no menue, nothing. If I am blind, I'm sorry.

If there is no message about this, then there is a problem.

Re: PM changes

So I just signed up a new gimmick and there is nothing about PMs anywhere. It's like PMs don't even exist.
