Private Messages changes - "Why can't I PM?" - Page 8 - About the Forums

Click "My 2+2" at the top and then click "Edit Options" from the drop down menu.

About 1/3 of the way down there is a title bar that says "Messaging and Notifications" (or something close to that).

There should be a box to tick that says "Enable Private Messaging"

Its not right below the bottom of that screen shot?

It should be right below "Default Subscription Mode"

I think there should be another way of limiting spammers.
Why not enable pm's for everyone but implement a function to report spammers?
If 3 complaints (or so) are reported pm's can then be unabled?

From what I understand of the criteria, there is no reason legend shouldn't have the ability to use PMs.

I believe Ryan should be back soon; I'd suggest giving it a day or two to get everything resolved.

This is what I've been trying to get at without saying too much. My suggestion would be to email a red like Ryan Beal if its really not in your options where I described it. An admin can go in and change the option for you.

I read the thread and think the idea is horrible for marketplace, zoo (trading), and coaching forums.

About half my students I get are lurkers with low post counts or someone who is completely new. A couple of my students notified me that their PM box is completely gone.

I think if they are able to send a couple PMs a day as someone suggested earlier is great. that'd be enough to remove spammers as well as giving other people an opportunity to send PMs.

Frankly I don't care if this makes things more difficult for complete strangers in the first two. Those are supposed to be more for people who already post here anyway.

If it's somehow causing problems with coaching (should be pretty rare), verified coaches can contact me for possible exceptions.

That number is not announced. Its not a static number anyway so it wouldn't help.

Regular use of the forums will activate that service for you.
